Sonic the Hedgehog 3 continues to succeed at the box office, and it’s now become actor Jim Carrey’s No. 2 movie of all time based on global performance at the box office.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has now brought in $446.7 million globally, which is only behind 2003’s Bruce Almighty ($484.6 million) in terms of Carrey’s best-performing movies of all time (via Cartoon Base).
Some of Carrey’s other top-performing movies have included The Mask ($351.6 million), How the Grinch Stole Christmas ($347.2 million), and Batman Forever ($336.6 million). These numbers are not adjusted for inflation.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is also helping set records for actor Keanu Reeves. The third Sonic movie is now bigger than any John Wick movie in the US in terms of money made at the box office.
The three Sonic the Hedgehog movies have earned more than $1 billion together, and a fourth is coming in 2027. It’s not immediately clear if Carrey will come back to play Dr. Robotnik again, but the actor has said he would consider it.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 recently passed $200 million in the US alone, becoming just the second video game movie ever to clear that mark, joining The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
There are a number of video game movies coming up in 2025, including A Minecraft Movie (April 4), Until Dawn (April 25), Mortal Kombat 2 (October 24), and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (December 5).
