Nintendo Switch 2 Experience Tickets Listed For Up To $1,000 On Resale Sites

Summary

  • Nintendo has started to inform those who applied for Switch 2 Experience whether they’ve been successful.
  • Some successful applicants are already trying to sell their tickets for as much as $1,000.
  • Don’t buy them, not only because the prices are ludicrous, but also because they can’t be transferred.

Nintendo has been sending out emails to people who applied for tickets to its Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events throughout April and May of this year and if you haven’t heard back, it probably means you weren’t successful. Don’t try to find someone willing to part with their tickets either, partly because they’re being resold for far too much money, but mainly because they’re non-transferable.

No sooner had emails notifying people if they have tickets to be among the first to play the Switch 2 or not started going out, people who clearly had no intention of ever actually attending the events began to try and make some money from them. There are listings for various Switch 2 Experience tickets live on eBay right now, one of which is offering someone the chance to attend the New York event on April 6 for $1,000.

Nintendo might be prepping for a strong year.

That’s quite the mark-up on a free ticket, and that’s not even the worst part. You’d have likely assumed this already considering the nature of the event and the lottery system used to distribute tickets, but you can’t just give, or sell, your tickets to somebody else. The FAQ page on the Switch 2 Experience site makes it very clear that tickets are non-transferable.

I think the $42.61 delivery fee has annoyed me even more than the $1,000 price tag. It’s a virtual ticket. Why is there a delivery fee at all?

Nintendo has also noted what people who can no longer attend the experience need to do with their tickets, and unsurprisingly, it’s not list them on eBay for hundreds of dollars. Ticketholders whose plans change can officially cancel their ticket so that it can be distributed to someone else. I’m assuming that means even those who weren’t lucky enough to get a ticket might still be in with a chance of being at the Experience should they be chosen to take a canceled ticket.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 Experience events will begin in April right after the console’s first Direct which will be where we get a better idea of what games the next-gen Nintendo console will have. The final event will take place on June 1 which has some thinking the console might release in mid-June.

So far the only game we’ve seen running on the Switch 2 is the next Mario Kart game, and even that was a very limited look. So limited that it wasn’t until people noticed the altered Donkey Kong design and then began to dissect the first look that we realized it was a new game.
