Nintendo finally revealed its next mainline console in early January, confirming that the Nintendo Switch 2 will officially launch later this year and verifying many previous rumors about the system being similar to the original Switch. Aside from the console itself, it was confirmed that a new Mario Kart game is in development for the Switch 2, and more information will be unveiled during a Nintendo Direct livestream in April.
Nintendo is also planning to give gamers a chance to try out the Switch 2 for themselves before its official launch in a series of special live events. These “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” events will begin on April 4 in New York and Paris, with additional playtests being held in Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania through June 1. Other events are planned to take place in Hong Kong and Taipei, but they have no official dates yet.
