It’s loud. It’s weird. It’s controversial. It’s got huge boss fights. And now it’s got a talking dolphin too. Atomic Heart is a wild FPS game that just keeps on expanding with new story DLC, and its third offering has just arrived. To celebrate, developer Mundfish is also knocking Atomic Heart down to its joint-lowest price ever on Steam.
As I alluded to when this new DLC was first announced, you’re not going to hear Atomic Heart’s name mentioned in conversations about the best FPS games ever made. However, that doesn’t detract from the fact it’s an absolute riot. Not afraid to take storylines, characters, bosses, environments, and weapon designs to weird and wonderful places, it certainly brings enough chaos and memorable moments to leave an impression.
Its third expansion, Enchantment Under the Sea, is now here, and BioShock fans may find some familiarity in its premise. As protagonist P-3, you aim to save humanity by diving down to an uncharted underwater facility that hides some shocking secrets. Accompanied by Twin, you’ll meet some new characters that seem just as witty and bizarre as we’ve come to expect from Atomic Heart at this point. From shotgun-wielding grandmothers to a hyper-intelligent talking dolphin, expect some strange encounters.
We’ve seen flashes of loads of new mechanical enemies that you’ll be dismantling and a couple of bosses too, including a massive sea serpent and a giant clockwork robot. Expect to find a decent array of new weapons and abilities to take them out with as well.
While this expansion is largely based in this mysterious underwater facility, some of the action will take place above the waves too. P-3 will be heading back to one of the main locations from the original campaign, Facility 3826, albeit this time it is largely destroyed and abandoned, judging from what we’ve seen in trailers. This is also where you’ll fight the distressingly cheery but deathly clockwork robot.
The Enchantment Under the Sea DLC for Atomic Heart is out right now. To coincide with the expansion’s release, the base game is heavily discounted at the moment. You can grab it with 67% off on Steam right now, which makes it its joint-lowest price ever at just $19.79 / £18.14. Be speedy though, because that offer ends on Monday, February 3.
