Summary

  • Amazon have finally announced a release date for Bosch: Legacy season 3 on March 27, 2025.
  • It looks like Amazon picked this particular date to avoid any suggestions they were using Reacher to kill it off.
  • Amazon’s focus is on cost-cutting, potentially leading to the neglect of successful shows like Bosch: Legacy.

Bosch: Legacy‘s third and final season will debut on March 27, 2025, with the first four episodes airing at once. Amazon’s promotion for Bosch: Legacy’s upcoming third season has been pretty shocking: Limited updates, no trailers, and the obvious one: they canceled the show before the new season had even aired. However, it feels like this recently announced release date for Bosch: Legacy was chosen to avoid any suggestions they were using Reacher season 3 to bury it in the schedules.

It could be argued that it doesn’t matter to Amazon how Bosch: Legacy season 3 performs because they are washing their hands of Harry Bosch. Previous seasons of the show were never treated this way, but things have clearly changed at Amazon, and they seem more interested in pushing shows like Reacher and Cross because they fit in with their advertising strategy.

Filming on Bosch: Legacy season 3 was completed a long time ago. In theory, it could have been released in the Fall of 2024, but it was probably delayed so it could act as a promotional tool for the upcoming Ballard spin-off, which has only recently wrapped filming and is due out later this year. Bleedingcool.com reported last week that Harry Bosch’s final season was due to begin airing on March 27, 2025, and this has now been confirmed by Amazon. Bosch: Legacy season 3’s release date is very interesting as Reacher ends its third season run on the very same day. It initially seemed like Reacher’s release date was planned to kill Bosch: Legacy, with Lee Child’s adaptation set to land on February 20, and Michael Connelly’s ex LAPD detective turned PI’s final season initially set for sometime in March. Did Amazon change their planned release date for Bosch: Legacy‘s final season to avoid suggestions they were using Reacher to kill it off? Very likely.

Amazon might have also pushed for a late March release date for Bosch: Legacy’s final season, so it’ll act as a direct lead in for the Ballard spin-off due out later this year. The final episode of Bosch: Legacy‘s third season will be a standalone story featuring Bosch and Ballard investigating a joint case. It’ll be based on Michael Connelly’s book Desert Star, which will also provide the basis for Ballard‘s debut season. Amazon will want to keep this particular storyline as close together as possible, to keep the audience invested in it.

Amazon Can’t Hide Their Contempt For Bosch: Legacy And The Fans

The huge delay in announcing a release date for Bosch: Legacy season 3 could be down to one very simple reason: Amazon just doesn’t care about Harry Bosch anymore. They’ve had ten combined seasons of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, and they don’t like that each season is more expensive to make, and it could also be argued that they actually hate how successful it has become. Bosch: Legacy is at the height of its popularity, and this could be a cause of frustration for Amazon. Michael Connelly’s contract clause stated he’d never agree to Harry Bosch’s stories being filmed outside of Los Angeles, but Amazon are obsessed with cutting costs.

Amazon’s attempts to kill Bosch: Legacy have backfired because they underestimated the passion of the devoted fan base, who continue to sign the petition to save the show from an abrupt end. 22,000 paying customers are demanding more Bosch: Legacy, but Amazon still insists on ignoring them. The fans were very happy to finally have an official release date for Bosch: Legacy season 3, and it’ll be interesting to see if Amazon will actually promote the final season now..
