Summary

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth actor Briana White has revealed that she was once worried she wasn’t “cut out” to play Aerith.
  • Thankfully, Barrett actor John Bentley was on hand to reassure her, telling her that they “cast [her] for a reason”.
  • With a Golden Joystick and a nomination for Best Performance at The Game Awards, safe to say she’s smashed it since then.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth can be fairly divisive games depending on who you ask, but one thing most people can agree upon is how good the game’s wholesome cast is. Those family-like vibes capture the hearts of pretty much everyone who plays the games, and they also translate to the game’s actors too.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s cast are all on good terms with each other, with special mention going to Aerith and Barrett actors Briana White and John Bentley, who recently sat down to talk about their experiences (thanks GamesRadar) working together on Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth ever since the release of the Tifa and Sephiroth reveal trailer back during E3 2019.

In the video, White talks about her inexperience as a voice actor before her Aerith days, having not really appeared in any major productions before Final Fantasy 7 Remake. During this section, White explains that she was initially quite worried about the role, wondering whether she was “cut out” to play Aerith, but was given reassurances from Bentley.

“I will never forget what you said to me sitting across the table from me,” says White, with Bentley giggling opposite her. “You said they cast you for a reason, and you are allowed to be in that booth and to bring what makes you special to the acting. That just opened up a whole new world for me.”

Whoever decided to let this damn cat throw boxes needs to be thrown into the lifestream.

Bentley then builds on that, telling White that she was able to “take [the role of Aerith] somewhere else” and that she was hired because she “made it [her] own”. Very wholesome stuff from these two, and it’s nice to see such a close relationship between two cast members as it very much translates to the screen.

Of course, we know now that White was more than cut out for the role, having bagged multiple awards for her performance as Aerith in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, including Best Supporting Performer at The Golden Joysticks and a nomination for Best Performance at The Game Awards.
