Heroes Of Hammerwatch 2: How To Unlock Every Class

Here’s how to unlock the Rogue, Warlock, and Sorcerer in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2.

Because of the Guild Title system, you are incentivized to play each of the classes in some capacity to gain permanent stat bonuses, but you’ll definitely want to settle on one class as your ‘main’. If you want to know which of the classes is the strongest, you’ve come to the right place. Just remember that every class is viable in New Game Plus, so ultimately we recommend picking the one you like playing the most.

7

Rogue

  • Recommended Class Mastery: Demolitions

The Rogue is a fast-paced, close-range attacker that can move in and out of combat, blowing up packs of enemies before retreating to safety. Despite being in last place on this list, the Rogue is very strong, especially with the right setup.

However, its Class Mastery options aren’t as interesting as other classes, and can be somewhat limiting. Demolitions is a great option that enhances the Rogue’s AoE capabilities, but Poison and Blades are somewhat lacking, adding little to the class’s options.

6

Ranger

  • Recommended Class Mastery: Beastmaster

The Ranger is the quintessential long-range kiter that stays at a distance, shooting waves of arrows at enemies while avoiding their attacks. Like the Rogue, the Ranger is a very solid class, but is lacking a bit when it comes to Class Masteries and damage output.

Of its three Class Masteries, Beastmaster is definitely the strongest and most fun to play, but as mentioned, you can succeed with any class and Mastery combination. The Ranger is great for kiting enemies around, picking them off one by one, so if this playstyle speaks to you, by all means, play the Ranger.

5

Warrior

  • Recommended Class Mastery: Berserker

The Warrior is a fairly straightforward class. Your goal is to hit enemies with your weapon. That said, all three of its Class Masteries add interesting depth to the class; the Berserker adds mobility with Leap, the Primalist turns the class into a totem summoner, and Tyrant enhances the AoE of the class.

Here are some beginner tips to help you get started in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2.

While Berserker is slightly stronger than the other two Masteries, you can’t really go wrong with the Warrior in any capacity. Plus, due to its high Strength stat, the Warrior can wield a variety of weapons, so you can really take this class in any direction you want.

4

Wizard

Creating a Wizard character in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2.
  • Recommended Class Mastery: Evocation

The Wizard is a long-range spellcaster that can deal damage with all three elemental types. Plus, the Wizard has Barrier, providing some much-needed defense to this otherwise damage-focused class. In comparison with the Sorcerer, the Wizard has a bit more survivability at the cost of slightly lower damage.

That said, the Wizard has some of the most interesting Class Masteries of every class in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2. The Conjuration Mastery lets you summon Hydras and an Animated Sword that attack on their own, while the Transmutation Mastery provides a beefy stat boost, rounding out the Wizard’s capabilities. Evocation is also a lot of fun to play with, allowing you to summon meteors that cover the screen in explosions.

3

Sorcerer

Creating a Sorcerer character in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2.
  • Recommended Class Mastery: Lightning

While the Wizard may have better defenses, the Sorcerer is supreme when it comes to offense, at least among the ranged-spellcasting group. Each of the Sorcerer’s Class Masteries allows it to specialize in Fire, Ice, or Lightning damage, providing tons of synergy for sticking with one type of element.

While this can be somewhat limiting when it comes to build planning, the results speak for themselves. If you want to blow up packs of enemies with ease, the Sorcerer provides that and much, much more. You can’t really go wrong with any of its Masteries, but Lightning provides some of the best burst damage of the three.

2

Warlock

Creating a Warlock character in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2.
  • Recommended Class Mastery: Souls

The Warlock is a melee spellcaster hybrid. Killing enemies will build up Essence, which greatly improves survivability, while its Dark Ritual provides the AoE needed for almost any encounter. The Warlock has tons of viable build options thanks to its three great Class Masteries, of which there’s no wrong choice.

The Summoning Mastery turns the Warlock into a pet class, relying on Fiends and a Gargoyle to deal with enemies, while the Soul Mastery builds on the strengths of the base Warlock, providing even more AoE and causing your weapon to fire projectiles while you have Essence. Finally, the Chaos Mastery is a lot of fun to play with, creating damaging Rifts that connect to one another.

1

Paladin

  • Recommended Class Mastery: Radiance

Lastly, we have Paladin. Not only is the Paladin one of the best solo and starting classes, but it retains its strength even as you progress through New Game Plus. While this is largely due to Lay on Hands, its dedicated healing spell, the Paladin’s Class Masteries also provide a great deal of utility and damage.

Radiance in particular brings the Paladin to the front of the pack. This Mastery provides a massive fire AoE that lets you clear out groups of enemies quickly, something the base Paladin sometimes struggles with. With the healing of Lay on Hands and the AoE of Inner Flames, the Paladin simply has no downsides, making it one of the strongest classes in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2.
