Summary

  • Classic Dino Crisis games are now available on PC with enhancements like modern hardware optimization.
  • Dino Crisis, created by the legendary Shinji Mikami, is like a Resident Evil game, but with zombies.

The classic Dino Crisis games are now on PC with quality-of-life improvements to boot. The original Dino Crisis was released way back in 1999 on the PlayStation 1 console and was a critical and commercial success.

The game was created by legendary director Shinji Mikami, known for a vast array of iconic titles, such as Resident Evil and Vanquish. Resident Evil has long been credited as the godfather of the survival horror genre, paving the way for countless other seminal games, like Dead Space and The Last of Us. Mikami himself has also made other survival-horror games of his own, like the aforementioned Dino Crisis.

New Horror Game Has Serious Dino Crisis Vibes

A brand-new horror game from Dead Drop Studios clearly takes inspiration from Capcom’s dormant Dino Crisis franchise.

As announced by GOG via Twitter, both Dino Crisis 1 and 2 are now available on PC as part of the GOG Preservation Program. This initiative ensures the titles remain accessible and playable on modern PC systems permanently, not just for a limited time. Players can purchase the games individually or as a discounted bundle. Both versions are optimized for modern hardware and include new features, such as quality-of-life improvements, enhanced DirectX rendering, and fixes for stability, transparency, and saving.

Dino Crisis 1 and 2 Now Available on PC

Dino Crisis 1 borrows the survival horror formula of Resident Evil, but trades zombies for dinosaurs. With intense gore, relentless tension, and one of horror’s bravest protagonists, the game was a fun experience for its era.

The legacy of the original game lives on, with modern titles drawing inspiration from Dino Crisis. The upcoming PlayStation 5 horror game Code Violet has been dubbed by its developer as the “spiritual successor” to the legendary dinosaur game. What’s more, the 2023 release Dinobreak also displays many similar themes to the game, but not to the extent that Code Violet appears to have borrowed.

For fans of the franchise, the announcement that Dino Crisis is now available on PC—optimized for modern systems with improvements—is welcome news. It offers players another chance to relive the terror of the original games all over again.
