New York City Underground – Path to Dragon Save Point 1:
NInja Gaiden 2 Black‘s third chapter, Thunderclap of Catastrophe, ends with Ryu Hayabusa defeating Death Megalo Flyer in the ruins of the New York City subway system. Chapter 4 picks up exactly where Chapter 3 left off, with Ryu still in a subway tunnel. To start A Captive Goddess, begin making your way down the tunnel.
Not long after departing the start point, you will encounter the flying fiends that shoot large balls of flame. The Fiend’s Bane Bow will take these fiends out in a single shot. After taking out the fiends, you’ll notice Chapter 4’s first Muramasa Statue Store on the right side of the tunnel. If you have the essence, take the time to upgrade your favorite weapon.
As you continue down the tunnel, you’ll encounter several more rounds of flying fiends. Once you get close to the end of this first tunnel, you’ll encounter the first group of basic Black Spider Ninjas. At the end of the path, there is a large pile of wrecked train cars and rubble. Walk right up to the pile, and you’ll see a hole in the ground that you can drop through to reach the next part of the main path.
As soon as you hit the lower level, another group of ninja will attack. After defeating this group, head down towards the left side of the chamber, and you’ll find a chest that contains the third Ninpo, The Art of the Wind Blades. Once you collect the Ninpo, you’ll be attacked by another group of ninja. When they are dealt with, continue past the chest and around the train cars, where you will be attacked yet again.
After defeating the final group of ninja, you should see a red light down the tracks. Before you continue, turn left and check the backside of the pile of wreckage. There will be another chest that is basically on the other side of the pile from the first chest. This second chest contains Red Ki Orbs. Now you can continue down towards the red light.
After you pass the red light, you’ll find yourself at what appears to be a station with platforms on each side. You’ll immediately be attacked by the larger fiend enemies upon entering the chamber. After you kill the fiends, look for the exit on the left platform. It is a small set of stairs that lead to an upper level.
At the top of the first set of stairs, you’ll find the first Dragon Save Point.
Exit the Subway – Path to Save Point 2:
From the first save point, move up the stairs to the first room of the train station building. You’ll encounter many enemies in this small room, so be prepared. After you’ve cleared the room, you’ll find two chests, one behind each of the gates that line the room. On one side, you’ll find a Herb of Spiritual Life, and on the other side, you’ll find a large Red Ki Orb.
When you open the chest that is semi-hidden along the side of a cabinet, you’ll be ambushed immediately after. There is then a third chest in the small room in the far wall that contains Blue Health Orbs. Once you’ve collected everything in the chamber, head up the stairs. You’ll be stopped by a gate that blocks the path. To get by, attack the gate. As soon as you do, however, you’ll be attacked by a basic ninja.
The final set of stairs will take you to street level. You’ll once again be on the streets of New York City. Not long after you emerge from the subway, you’ll be attacked by multiple blade dogs. Once they are dealt with, make your way to the edge of the area, near the small railing. There is a path that is hard to see until you get to the end of the fence.
Head around the fence, and you’ll see a small path to follow. Turn right at the pillars holding up the platform above, and you’ll encounter another group of ninjas. Once they are defeated, you’ll see that there is an alley between the buildings ahead. If you go through the back area, you’ll find a Herb of Spiritual Life on a dead body in a small alcove.
As you come out of the alleys, you’ll find Dragon Save Point 3 against the wall at the base of a ladder. However, before you use the save point, you can collect the first Crystal Skull.
You may also notice a Store and a chest on the other side of the fence from the save point. Don’t worry about them now, you’ll be able to get them later.
The first Crystal Skull in chapter 4 is on a small ledge above the alley.
From the second save point, head back towards the alley, then turn left. You should see the wall in the above images. You need to wall-run around the corner, then jump up to the platform to collect the skull. You can also see it in the featured video guide above.

Once you are done, you can return to the second save point and move on to the next section of the main path.

Above the City – Path to Save Point 3:
The first thing you want to do when you leave save point 2 is climb almost to the top of the nearby ladder. Right before the top, do the backflip, jump off the ladder, and you’ll land on the road behind you. You’ll see a chest at the end of the path that contains Yellow Essence. You can then jump down and head back up the ladder.
At the top of the ladder, turn left, and you’ll find a Jewel of the Demon Seal on a dead body in the middle of the road. Continue straight to the end of the road, and you’ll see a small broken section of the wall to the right. Pass through that and turn right, then immediately get attacked by large fiend enemies. You’ll also face several flying fiends here.
Once the fiends are dead, continue along the road. Pay attention to the fence on the right side of the road. As soon as you see that it’s broken, you’ll want to look across to a small platform where Crystal Skull 2 is sitting. Before you jump across, go to the end of the road to find another chest containing Grains of Spiritual Life. Now head back and jump across to the skull.
Once you have the skull, don’t take the ladder yet. Jump from the small ledge all the way down to ground level. This is where you can access the Store and chest that were behind the fence near save point 2. The chest contains a Life of the Gods. Head away from the store and you’ll get attacked by large fiends. Look for a large concrete structure built out of a wall. You can use this to wall-jump back and forth all the way to the top of the building.
At the top, you’ll be on another elevated road. You’ll face yet another group of large fiends. Defeat them, then head down to the barrier blocking the road. You’ll find a ladder that leads up to Dragon Save Point 4.
How to Beat Godamus in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black:
From the third save point, before you head toward the bridge tower, turn around and run away from the tower, to the end of the wooden path. You’ll find a chest containing Yellow Essence. Once you have that, run toward the suspension tower of the Brooklyn Bridge. When you get close to the tower, a cutscene will automatically start. This leads into the mid-level boss fight with Godamus.
Godamus is extremely powerful, and can do significant damage with each hit.Godamus will use the following attacks:
- Fist slam: Watch for the arm raising up, and prepare to dodge.Godamus will slam his massive fist into the ground.
- Palm Slam: When you get in close, Godamus will raise both arms and slam his palms on the ground. Hard to dodge.
- Arm Sweep: This is another attack Goadamus uses when you get in close. They sweep their arms across the ground in front of them. Try to jump over.
- Sonic Waves: Godamus appears to use his voice to create a massive wave attack that pushes Ryu back.
- Rock Projectile: Godamus can throw large boulders they pull from the ground. They can be dodged. Blocking will break your stance.
Be careful, don’t charge up to Godamus too quickly after the first attack, as they will string together several attacks early in the fight. At higher difficulty levels, Godamus can take you out with one successful string of attacks. Godamus can be stunned if you land successful heavy attacks. This is the best way to give yourself a window for combo attacks.
The overall goal is to successfully dodge Godamus’ attacks, then get in close for several swings. Godamus is especially vulnerable to Ninpo, so make sure you use them. If you have Devil’s Way Mushrooms, make sure to refill your Ki so you have six total Ninpo attacks.

Outside Lady Liberty – Path to Save Point 4:
After you defeat Godamus, Sonia appears in her helicopter and takes you to the small island that houses the Statue of Liberty. For the rest of the chapter, your goal is to enter the statue, then ascend to the top level. You’ll start on the front lawn, where multiple large fiends attack you. Once they are defeated, you can enter the main structure.
After you enter, turn left into the museum area. You’ll find Dragon Save Point 4 behind glass in a display case. Go ahead and attack the glass case to get at the save point.
To the Top – Path to Save Point 5:
From save point 4, go further into the museum area, and you’ll find a new weapon in the glass case near the replica of the Statue of Liberty’s foot. This new weapon is Enma’s Fang, a massive greatsword that is one of the best weapons in the game. Right next to it, you can find “The Vigoor Mythology” manuscript.
Once you have the sword, a sliding gate will rise to the left of the case, granting access to the previously sealed door. Continue through the hallway and into the next chamber. You’ll face two ninja in the hallway, then several more once you enter the larger room. After the enemies are defeated, you’ll find a Devil’s Way Mushroom on a dead body on the upper level.
To exit the chamber, you need to break through the glass on the upper level, at the opposite end of the room from the stairs. A large fiend will enter as soon as you approach the glass, so be prepared to fight. Jump down to the courtyard after the fight, and you’ll see two wooden stairways going up either side of the structure. One of them is blocked off, and the other you can use to reach the upper level.
If you need health, don’t use any items. Before you go up, open the chest in the grass near the blocked-off stairs. Inside the chest you’ll find Blue Health Orbs. Now you can head up the stairs. You’ll encounter more fiends on your way up. Defeat them, and continue up the stone stairs until you reach the square base of the Statue of Liberty. The base will have a door on each of the four sides, but only one of them is open. Watch out for the flying fiends around each corner.
Inside the small chamber, you’ll find an elevator shaft in the center. Do not go up it until you’ve collected the final Crystal Skull. To do this, take out the annoying archers at ground level and on the walkway above. Once you defeat the archers, head towards the stairs. Before you go up, turn into the small room just before the stairs. Inside, you’ll find a chest containing a Lives of the Thousand Gods item.
Now, take the stairs up and you’ll see Dragon Save Point 5. Feel free to save, but before you leave, jump over the concrete railing to the left of the save point.
You should land on a metal structure that looks like a catwalk. If you look below, you should see the third Crystal Skull on another catwalk structure that is one floor below. See the images and video if you are having a hard time locating it. Once you have the skull, you can return to ground level and wall-jump up the elevator shaft.
Path to Alexei:
At the top of the elevator shaft, you’ll find yourself in an empty room. Take the stairs up to the next level and you’ll encounter several ninja. Defeat the enemies, then look for the door to a balcony just before the next set of stairs. You’ll face several flying fiends on the patio, but you’ll also find the final chest, which contains a single Life of the Gods.
Now, head up the stairs, and you’ll see a Muramasa Store just before a separate spiral staircase. If you need to refill any items or upgrade any weapons, now is the time to do it. Just before the entrance to the stairs, you’ll find one Grains of Spiritual Life – make sure you don’t waste your essence buying one.
Make your way up the spiral staircase until you see a broken wall on the left. You want to use the outer wall and the side of the staircase to spring back and forth to the top. Once you pop through the small hole in the floor above, you can find “The Four Greater Fiends, Part 2” on a dead body. There is then another staircase you can take, and when you reach the top, a cutscene will automatically start.

How to Beat Alexei in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black:
We used Enma’s Fang for most of our fight with Alexei, and it seemed to work well. Alexei, overall, does not use a wide range of attacks. Here, the goal is to avoid the extremely dangerous electric attacks that Alexei frequently uses. Here is a general list of Alexei’s attacks:
- Electric Orbs: Aleixei releases fast-moving electric orbs that seek Ryu out. You must be quick to dodge these, but if you can do so, you’ll have a brief chance to attack. This was Alexei’s most common attack in our fight. Ryu can also block this attack.
- Whirldwind: Alexei spins in a circle, creating a whirlwind that does a lot of damage.
- Electric Pulse: Alexei creates a large ball of electricity around himself, damaging Ryu if he is within the circle.
Other than these attacks, Alexei pursues Ryu extremely aggressively across the arena. This is when you should use the counter ability as much as you can. Do not be afraid to hold the block button down during Alexei’s frantic attacks that are hard to time. Eventually, you’ll get a counter, and a large chunk of health with it.
