It’s the start of the new Call of Duty season, and ironically for Warzone players, one of the most exciting things to come from this is knowing when the next season starts. Yes, Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 is out now with lots of fresh content and some vital gameplay improvements for the battle royale, especially. But thanks to the in-game battle pass timer, the start date for Season 3 is all but confirmed by Activision. You likely won’t need me to remind you that the start of Season 3 should also mark one of the biggest days in Warzone history – the new Verdansk release date.
Ever since last August’s COD Next showcase, there’s been one thing on the majority of Warzone players’ minds – the return of Verdansk. We officially know that a new version of the battle royale game’s original map is arriving in the spring. However, with no signs of Verdansk appearing in Season 2 and prominent leakers claiming that Season 3 is when it’ll return, the start of the new season seems to almost certainly be when we’ll be dropping back into iconic locations like Stadium, Downtown, and Prison.
With Season 2 is live, we can now see when this current season will end and when the new one will begin. While this is subject to change, it is extremely rare for battle pass timers to be incorrect, or for them to be shortened or extended.
According to the battle pass timer, Warzone Season 3 will begin in 51 days’ time on Thursday, March 20, and this is widely expected to also be the release date for Verdansk.
This date also comes just ten days after the fifth anniversary of Warzone’s (and Verdansk’s) initial release date of March 10, 2020.
There is always a chance that Activision surprises us with Verdansk earlier or later than this date by adding it in either Season 2 Reloaded or Season 3 Reloaded – however, for a moment as significant as this, a mid-season update feels highly unlikely. The return to Verdansk is a big enough hook to base the entire season’s theme on, even for Black Ops 6.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of reception Verdansk gets when it is reintroduced into the game. We haven’t played any iteration of it (either the original Modern Warfare version or the Verdansk ‘84 version from Black Ops Cold War) since December 2021. Naturally, a lot has changed since then. With the adoption of Black Ops 6’s fast and dynamic movement system, and the addition of countless new weapons, perks, equipment items, bounties, and more, I wonder if the true nostalgic feeling of Verdansk will be lost.
Until we get the final, official word from Activision, why not head into Season 2 and start leveling up those weapons ahead of Verdansk’s return? Alternatively, here are some other brilliant FPS games and free PC games you can hop into instead.
