Massive Entertainment, the developer of popular third-person shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, has revealed that players will have to wait a bit longer for the game’s upcoming DLC. The follow-up to The Division, 2019’s The Division 2 is a live-service game that still boasts a large and loyal fanbase years after release.
The sequel continues the story of the deadly Dollar Flu that decimated New York City in the first game, this time taking players to Washington DC and its historic landmarks. So far, Massive has released three episodic DLC for The Division 2 — DC Outskirts: Expedition, Pentagon: The Last Castle, and Coney Island: The Hunt — as well as one very well-received expansion pack in 2020 called Warlords of New York.

In June 2024, with the launch of The Division 2’s Year 6, Massive revealed that the Year’s end would bring a new story DLC, sending players back to The Division‘s Brooklyn, New York. Since this is where the original story began, fans of the post-apocalyptic series were understandably very excited. However, the developer announced on January 28, 2025, that the DLC will not release in Year 6, after all.
Division 2 Fans Have to Wait a Bit More for New York DLC
In its Twitter post, Massive explained that the highly anticipated New York DLC for The Division 2 will be delayed in order to refine it and ensure “the best possible experience” for players. Though disappointed, many of the comments express understanding and even praise the studio for not rushing the project. Others, however, claim that it’s been nearly four years since any “real” content was released for The Division 2, and some state that Massive should just move on to The Division 3, which was confirmed by Ubisoft to be in development in September 2023.
Seasons were introduced to The Division 2 in 2020 with the launch of Warlords of New York, and the developer has regularly updated the game since. Though there hasn’t been new “content,” per se, each season adds weapons, talents, and gear, as well as new gameplay modifiers to change up the meta and pave the way for different playstyles. Manhunts were also overhauled with the launch of Year 6, giving players a new Mission, a new difficulty level, and more frequent activities to complete. However, with the cancellation of The Division Heartland in 2024, some fans of the franchise are not content to have only The Division Resurgence to look forward to. Hopefully, the wait for The Division 2 DLC won’t be too long.
