From its inception, Disney Plus has made Star Wars a focal point for creating unique and original content, which has led to some fantastic television shows. They have focused on different timelines, some bringing in Star Wars characters that people know and love, while others have featured more obscure or completely new names.
However, one period of Star Wars history that has largely been overlooked is the prequels. That trilogy proved to be contentious amongst hardcore Star Wars fans, who felt it was a departure from what made the original trilogy so popular. Regardless of those views, now might be the time for Disney to start focusing on the prequel period to create more content.

The Prequels Have A Ready-Built Audience
Many old-school Star Wars fans view the prequels with disdain and often don’t want to talk about or think of them in the slightest. However, what is often forgotten is the fact that those movies have a genuine audience. For many people, it was those three movies that they grew up on when it came to this franchise. The special effects took them in as young children, the epic lightsaber battles, and Anakin Skywalker’s journey toward the dark side, especially if they’d never seen the first three movies. They are the same people who loved the hit show Star Wars: The Clone Wars and have continued to fly the flag for many memorable characters in Episodes one to three.
There are also just plenty of people who didn’t grow up with them but still found the positives that came with all three films, of which there are many. Audiences have grown to appreciate the prequels more over the years as expectations and comparisons have drifted away. People have begun to appreciate these movies, so now is the time for Disney to focus on that era of the Star Wars timeline. A genuine audience is there that deserves to be serviced by more content, and a Disney Plus series is the ideal way to make it happen.
Disney Is Starting To Inject More Prequel Characters Into Current Content
Disney appears to recognize that there are people who want to explore the characters from the Star Wars prequels in more depth, as there has been a focus on them recently. The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series might’ve been set years after Return of the Sith, but it tapped into the two main characters from the prequel movies and explored their relationship and what it meant to them both in further detail. The buzz surrounding that show and bringing those characters back proved an audience with an appetite for this type of content.
It has recently been reported that Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padame could all be set to feature in the second season of Ahsoka, proving that Disney is once again looking to explore the past in more detail. It is believed those three would be appearing in scenes set during the prequels, allowing fans to gain more lore and backstory for that era. The fact Disney is concentrating on this more is a positive sign for those wanting a specific show set in the prequel timeline.
There Is A Lot Of Storyline Potential
The prequel era of Star Wars needs to be explored mainly because of all the storyline potential. There are so many Jedi and Sith Lords alive at this time, not to mention all of the wars happening with different species across the planets within the galaxy system. Creating something with tons of tension would be easy, focusing on the best parts of the movies and neglecting the weaker issues. There’s no need for tons of political jargon. Instead, there can be epic lightsaber battles and characters who deserve more opportunities being handed them.
Anything to do with Anakin and Obi-Wan will go down well, and seeing more content from a younger Yoda would also be exciting. A Mace Windu series is something fans have always wanted, while there are also tons of non-Jedi characters that could be shown in a featured spotlight. It’s obvious that there are many ways Disney could take the franchise if this time period was focused on. It would allow Disney to bring out all the latest effects, which could bring some epic visuals.
A Disney Plus series set in the prequel era of Star Wars is something that a large portion of fans want, which is why it should happen. Disney has several of the key actors from that period excited about working on content again, too, making it the ideal time to do it before they get too old to play those roles. While doing a movie in this era might be seen as a box office risk, it is dramatically reduced when creating content for a streaming platform. Star Wars content will always draw interest, and concentrating on an era that hasn’t been looked into previously would be a fresh move.
