Best Multiplayer Games That Are Fun To Play Alone

Take some time to yourself in these otherwise multiplayer games.

Whether you’re hosting a co-op mission, diving into squad matches, or flexing in No Cross, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know. Let’s get this multiplayer party started because sniping is always better with company.

How To Add Friends

3-14

Any friends already on your platform’s friend list will automatically show up in the game. To add new ones, just add them through your console’s network, Steam account, or link your Epic Games account.

You don’t actually need to add friends, as multiplayer runs on an invite code system. Adding them is mostly just useful for checking who’s online.

How To Play With Friends

1-41

You can play with friends either through Co-Op Mode or Multiplayer Mode.

Co-Op Mode

To play Co-Op mode, go to the main play menu screen where you’ll see the options to host or find a co-op game. To host one:

  • Click ‘Host Co-Op Game’ and then your username in the top-right corner to generate an invite code.
  • Share this code with a friend. They’ll need to click their username in the same spot and enter the code to join your game.
  • Once they’ve joined, you can select the mission you’d like to play together.

If you prefer to find a co-op game, select ‘Find Co-Op Game’ from the main menu. This option will automatically match you with a random player.

Multiplayer Lobbies

The process works similarly to the other Multiplayer Modes. Click ‘Multiplayer’ at the very right of the main menu to start. Then:

  • Choose the game mode you want to play.
  • Once you’re in a lobby, click your username in the top-right corner to generate an invite code.
  • Share the invite code with your friend, who can enter it in the same spot to join your game.

What Are The Multiplayer Game Modes?

4-9

There are seven modes to choose from for multiplayer play. They are:

Multiplayer Gamemode

Description

No Cross

An 8v8 sniping match where a barrier divides the map. The goal is to rack up kills without crossing the barrier.

Free-For-All

A non-team-based mode where you compete solo to get the highest number of kills within the time limit or until the score cap is reached.

Team Match

An 8v8 mode similar to No Cross but without a barrier. The objective is to get the most kills.

Squad Match

A 4v4v4v4 mode where players are split into four teams. Like Team Match, the goal is to outscore other teams by getting kills.

Custom Games

Create your own matches using any of the above game modes, with customizable rules to suit your preferences.

Survival

Defend four separate areas against enemies.

Axis Invasion

Join another player’s campaign and hunt them down as a German sniper.

How Does Matchmaking Work?

5-7

When you queue for a Multiplayer match, the game will either place you in a lobby or allow you to host your own. Once the lobby fills up, the host can adjust the match settings via the Game Settings tab. At least two players are required to start a match. For Co-Op, it’ll simply place you into the lobby of someone else looking for a co-op partner.

Is There Crossplay?

A setting in Sniper Elite Resistance showing cross-play functionality.

Yes, there’s crossplay! Since the game uses an invite code system, you don’t need to be on each other’s friends list to team up. Supported platforms include PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Not a fan of crossplay? No problem. Head to the ‘Options’ menu, navigate to the ‘Game’ tab under ‘Multiplayer,’ and toggle off the ‘Cross-Play Allowed’ setting.
