Right now you can get a 27-inch, Samsung OLED gaming monitor for an incredibly low price, netting you the ultimate in display performance for a far lower price than you typically expect to pay for an OLED panel. With a $210 saving off its usual MSRP, this Samsung G61SD deal is a steal.
Samsung OLED panels are packed into some of the best gaming monitor designs available, and this deal display is chock-full of high-end specs too. With a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and ripping 240Hz refresh rate, it’s going to be a great option for those seeking a panel for competitive first-person shooters. Meanwhile, its dazzling contrast and image quality will be prized whatever genre of game you’re playing, or video you’re watching.
The Samsung 27 Odyssey OLED G6 (G61SD) is the rather cumbersome full name of this display, and it normally costs $799.99. However, it’s currently available for just $589.99, making it one of the cheapest OLED gaming monitors you can buy.
What makes OLED tech so tempting for gamers is its incredibly fast response time. Samsung quotes a speed of just 0.03ms for this panel, which is 100x faster than a typical LCD. This means you get virtually no ghosting or blur, leading to a sharp image no matter how fast the image is changing.
The ability for OLED panels to have individual pixels go completely black also means they have effectively infinite contrast, which makes for an incredible amount of depth to images. Combine this with 99% DCI-P3 color space coverage and you also have incredibly vivid colors that make the most of HDR content.
Meanwhile, the combination of a 27-inch screen size and 2,560 x 1,440 resolution is ideal for gaming and other general desktop use. We find most OLED screens of this size and resolution aren’t great for producing really sharp text – LCDs are better – so this wouldn’t be our first choice for working all day, but for occasional work use (or if your job isn’t reading and writing all day like ours) then it’s a decent option.
Freesync is onboard too to eliminate screen tear and stuttering on AMD GPUs. In our experience, this is likely to also work with Nvidia GPUs too – as G-Sync – but the display isn’t officially rated as G-Sync compatible so there’s no guarantee.
With plenty of connections, this display is also primed for use with various games consoles as well as your PC, plus it has a smart design that means it won’t look out of place in a smart office either. The stand also offers height adjustment so there’s no need to resort to stacks of books to get the panel at the right height.
