Godzilla has been a permanent fixture of Fortnite games this weekend, but it turns out this might have been our final chance at playing as the lizard. According to Fortnite leakers, Godzilla is leaving Fortnite this week. With the transformation turned back off, probably forever. Is this really going to be the end of the Kaiju feature in Fortnite?
The game is in the midst of a season with a big theme around Kaiju and Japanese mythology like Oni. While Godzilla was only activated a few weeks ago, these kinds of transformation can become a bit overbearing quickly. With the spawn rate turned up, everyone who wanted it might have been able to get their turn in. So it seems Godzilla is being turned back off. When are we expecting him to leave and why has it been shorter lived?
Godzilla Leaving Fortnite This Week
The Fortnite Godzilla transformation has turned out to be a bit shorter than last season’s Doctor Doom one. After a week of standard 20% spawn rates, Godzilla then got moved up to spawning in every game. Meaning players could become Godzilla or get the Chapter 6 medallion in every game. However, according to Fortnite leakers, the next update will see him turned back off.
We’re currently very close to the end of the Fortnite season, and it seems we’ll be getting the standard gameplay back a little earlier than thought. When Godzilla is turned back off, it’ll be back to the core gunplay that was so much fun in the first month of the season.
While the Godzilla transformation leaving Fortnite might come earlier, the Godzilla skin isn’t. players can still utilize their Battle Pass to unlock the playable outfit. However, the huge Kaiju form won’t be in the main game any more.
Will He be Missed?
Godzilla is going after just a couple of weeks in-game, why so soon? The character was fun at first glance but had some major problems. It just wasn’t as powerful as Godzilla felt like he should be. Capable of stomping down POIs, but too slow to put up much of a fight against the combo of an AR and slight movement. As we’ve seen through the 100% spawn period, he’s incredibly disruptive despite not really doing much to other players. The big lizard appearing feels more like an annoyance than anything else.
As many fans pointed out when the transformation got added, Epic’s approach to these has gotten weird. A lot of players would prefer these transformations were put into LTMs. It would give variety in modes, and allow the transformations to be more overpowered since you don’t have the entire Fortnite player base to cater to. It would seemingly be a better solution. However, with the Godzilla transformation leaving Fortnite, the game will be back to normal soon anyway.
