This devil fruit played a huge role during the Void Century in One Piece. Here’ how.
Among all that Oda revealed to the fans in One Piece chapter 1136, undoubtedly, the lore surrounding the God of Destruction was the most exciting one. While some fans might not have thought much of it, it could actually end up being pivotal in the final saga, as not only will it shape a certain character, but also the upcoming Great War.
The God of Destruction And Nika
- Niak Is Believed To Be The God of Liberation By Some And God Of Destruction By Others
- The Sun God Always Shows Up When The World Is Destroyed
The Sun God is a very complex deity in the One Piece world. Fans don’t know much about the Sun God other than what’s been revealed already in the Wano Country, Egghead, and Elbaf arc of the story. While the mention of the Sun God first came in the Skypiea arc, true importance was only attached to it starting Wano, where it was revealed that the Sun God Nika was a very beloved deity that shows up in the time of need of slaves or those under oppression. Nika comes with a booming laughter and frees slaves wherever he goes. He brings laughter and joy, and his laugh itself is said to be contagious. Nika fights with a rubbery body, with the only thing limiting him being his own imagination, truly wielding a power labeled as the most ridiculous in the whole world. All this is indisputable about Nika. However, then there are things that are heavily debated upon by the people of the world.
In the entire world, it is believed to be the most ridiculous power of all! — Five Elders
Nika is a figure beloved to many, with the Giant race being one of them. Given that Nika himself was a Giant and originated from Elbaf, it is no surprise to know that they know the most about him. In the Elbaphian history exists a scripture of ancient history called the Harley. This scripture is so old that it cannot even be translated accurately anymore. Various iterations of this scripture exist, and they carry different meanings. What it states is that the world of One Piece has already been destroyed twice in the past. Both the times the world was destroyed, the coming of the Sun God Nika was also marked. As such, Nika is always involved in the destruction of the world. This is where the confusion arises.
Some believe that Nika is a God of Liberation who fights against the destruction of the world and saves people in doing so—being more in line with what the Buccaneers think. However, some others believe that Nika itself is a the bringer of destruction and death, and in other words, a God of Destruction. Since the scripture is so old and undecipherable now, it is impossible to say what it truly means. But, Nika is stated to be both a savior and a destroyer, which is also in line with what Vegapunk stated in Egghead. According to Vegapunk, whether Joy Boy was good or evil was hard to say as, even though he was fighting against a collaboration that wiped out history and eliminated races, he did still carry three weapons capable of destroying the world, and even wanted to pass them on to the future generations.
As is evident from what has been revealed so far, Nika is a conflicting character and what fans knew so far about Nika being a Warrior of Liberation, might not be so accurate, after all. This is exactly where things get very interesting.
Why Nika Might Also Exist As A God Of Destruction
Nika Could Exist In Two Different Forms
In the land of the Giants, Elbaf, fans know that Nika is one of the most important figures. So much so that every Giant wants to become Nika. Road called himself the God of the Sun, while Loki referred to himself as “The Sun God who will destroy the world.” While the former case is simply wishful thinking, the latter is very interesting and actually has something to back it up. Loki doesn’t simply call himself the Sun God because he wishes to be like him. His case is unique.
Whether Nika is a God of Destruction or a God of Liberation is something nobody knows.— Jarul
Loki actually consumed a legendary Devil Fruit that was passed down the Elbaf royal line and was likely connected to Nika itself. From what’s been stated so far, Loki killed Harald and consumed this fruit—something that might yet turn out to be an unreliable telling of the events. Regardless, what fans know is that Loki ate the Devil Fruit and Harald was dead. Loki’s strength was such that it took the entirety of to Elbaf stop him and chain him. At some point, Loki even went out to the sea, but it was Shanks who beat and captured him, bringing him back home.

Kaido is a powerful One Piece character. Shanks however surpasses him.
Loki consuming a Legendary Devil Fruit makes him unique, and actually gives him a chance of being the Sun God. On top of that, fans also know that even the people of Elbaf back up Loki’s claim of being the Sun God, as they fully believe Loki is capable enough to destroy the entire world. This comes despite the Giants knowing that the Sun God has an all-white Nika transformation. Clearly, Loki must have a similar power, otherwise, the Giants and Loki himself would never mistake things this badly. But, then, one starts to wonder how Loki can be the Sun God when Luffy already is Nika and the Warrior of Liberation. The answer lies in the way of Devil Fruit creation.
How the Two Nika Fruits Could’ve Been Created
The Devil Fruits Are Born From The Wishes Of People
Months ago, in November, we shared the idea of the Nika fruit coming in a pair. It seems that this theory is more true now than ever before. Perhaps, there exist two Nika Devil Fruits, and two Sun Gods. Undoubtedly, originally, there would’ve been only one Sun God. However, it is due to the confusion and inaccurate versions of Nika that there could’ve existed two Nika Devil Fruits. To explain this, one simply has to look at the creation of Devil Fruits. Vegapunk said that Devil Fruits are a look into a different pathway of human evolution, and that they’re simply a result of humanity’s wishes and desires. As such, Nika, the Warrior of Liberation, is a result of someone wishing Nika to be real and liberate them.
Those who believed in Nika to be the God of Liberation likely gave rise to the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. But, there are tons of people out there who believe Nika is a God of Destruction, and their wishes too should give rise to a Nika Devil Fruit, only this one having the power of a destroyer who laughs. While one version was eaten by Luffy, the God of Destruction version could’ve been eaten by Loki.
