There are multiple Sun Gods in the One Piece story. Here’s who they are.

Now, things are quite clear as Elbaf seems to have given him an incredibly massive role, attaching special importance to him as someone capable of destroying the world. Loki is undoubtedly a monster and a big source of his strength might just be his Devil Fruit, which seemingly possesses the power of a God; a God of Destruction, to be more specific. Here’s how Loki acquired this Devil Fruit and what it means for the future of One Piece.

Loki As The Destroyer Of The World

  • Loki Calls Himself The Sun God Who Will Destroy The World
  • Loki Wants To Be Nika

Fans know Loki to be an incredibly intriguing character already, even though he’s hardly made a move in the Elbaf arc yet. Loki has been chained to a tree right from the get-go, and fans have been waiting to see him finally released, which would then give them the opportunity to see what Loki is all about, and how strong he truly is. While that truly is fascinating to wonder about, Loki has already done enough to excite the fans greatly, and he’s done so by labeling himself to be the Sun God. To be more clear, everyone in Elbaf wants to be the Sun God. Even the former king, Harald, wanted to be the Sun God in his own way. Road, the navigator of the New Giant Warrior Pirates, also called himself the Sun God. As such, it is no surprise to know that Loki calls himself the Sun God as well. However, his case is different from the others. There might actually be truth to Loki’s claim of being the Sun God, which is what makes him very exciting as a character.

I’m the Sun God who will destroy the world! — Loki

When Loki first met Luffy, he openly called himself the Sun God who will destroy the world. When he met the Holy Knights, he, once again, reiterated that even though his friend died, he wouldn’t mourn. Instead, he’ll mourn the loss and use it as fuel to reduce the world to rubble. Clearly, Loki believes himself to be the destroyer of the entire world, which is what makes him very special. This claim of being the destroyer of the world isn’t something that Loki just cooked up out of nowhere. In fact, the entire country of the Giants, who have seen and known Loki for who he is, fully believe that when Loki is freed from his chains, the world will be destroyed, such is his strength. According to Elder Jarul, Loki wants to be like Nika, which is why he wants to destroy the world.

The Sun God Can Be A Warrior of Liberation Or A God Of Destruction

Fans might be confused about why Loki would want to destroy the world if he calls himself the Sun God. Clearly, the Wano Country Arc stated the Sun God Nika to be a Warrior of Liberation who spreads laughter and joy and frees people in need from their misery and oppression. Nika is portrayed as a savior of the world by the Five Elders, who have previously seen him and fought against him in the Void Century. However, in Elbaf, things are different.

One Piece: The Three Destructions Of The World, Explained

The world of One Piece will go through three destrcutions. The last one is yet to happen.

It has not been clearly revealed in One Piece that the legend of Nika comes from a scripture called Harley, which is a part of Elbaphian Mythology. This scripture mentions that the world of One Piece has been destroyed twice already. Both the time the world was destroyed, the name of the Sun God Nika was invoked. In other words, Nika was present and actively involved in the conflict that led to the destruction of the world twice.

According to Harley, our world has been destroyed twice already. — Jarul

Due to the Harley being quite old and having a lot of translations, nobody truly knows what it really means. But, some Giants now believe Nika to be a God of Liberation, while others believe Nika to be a God of Destruction. One thing that is clear is that whenever the world is about to face an upheaval, Nika shows himself, which is why those in power fear his arrival. This explains the duality of the Sun God Nika, and also goes on to add depth to the idea of Loki wanting to be Nika and destroy the world, while Luffy being the Sun God and liberating the world. But, Luffy being Nika doesn’t take away from the fact that Loki can be Nika too, crazy as that may sound.

Does Loki Have A God Of Destruction Devil Fruit?

Loki’s Legendary Devil Fruit Could Make Him Nika

Loki is a very powerful individual and that’s something fans know already. His strength is monstrous, given that he himself believes it to be reminiscent of Nika. However, fans have already discarded that idea because they clearly know who the real Nika is. Luffy was already confirmed to be the Sun God Nika long ago. The Elders explicitly confirmed it, and so Did Imu, Zunesha, Momonosuke, and many others. Luffy is undoubtedly Nika. But, he might not be the only Nika.

When looking at the idea of the creation of the Devil Fruits, there being two Nika actually makes a lot of sense, and this has to do with the duality of the God. Devil Fruits were stated by Vegapunk to be a different pathway of evolution brought about by people’s wishes. In other words, all Devil Fruits are a result of someone wishing for something to be real. For instance, people’s wishes gave rise to Nika, because they believed in the Sun God Nika and wanted him to liberate them. Similarly, someone wanted to be fire itself and that’s where the power of the Mera Mera no Mi comes from.

Now, this is where things get interesting. If there is just one Nika, but people have different ideas of what he’s like, this could easily have given rise to two different versions of him. Some would’ve wished for Nika the liberator to be real, giving rise to the power that Luffy has, but others would’ve wished for Nika the God of Destruction to be real, giving rise to the Nika fruit that Loki has currently, which is clearly said to be legendary and was passed down the royal line in Elbaf for centuries. Clearly, the possibility of two Nika existing, both with a different purpose, is very real and it could very well be confirmed in the story soon enough.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1137, is set to be January 26, 2025.
