Additionally, you may wonder if you can build in one of the other biomes, or if you should establish your village near them to be close to resources. Here in this guide we will explain the benefits and restrictions of each biome, and what you can expect when building your village in either one.
Updated on January 17, 2025 by Connie Watson: With the new Lost Isles biome and the Storm King’s invasion, there are more places to build a village, and more resources to obtain for crafting. We’ve updated this guide to include all the new information.
Where Should You Build Your Village?
In Lego Fortnite you’ll find three main biomes: The Grasslands, Dry Valley, and The Frostlands.
Where you build your village will solely depend on how far along you are in the game. Two of the three biomes have extreme temperatures that can damage your health without proper protection. The enemies you’ll find there are also stronger and more dangerous.
If you just started a brand new world, your first village should be built in the Grasslands. This will allow you to forage and progress until you can visit the other biomes.
Let’s go over each biome individually to explain what resources they provide, what animals you’ll encounter, and what you’ll need to build a village in each one.
The Grasslands: Tips, Resources, And Food Sources
The Grasslands are full of sweeping plains, rolling hills, and rich green grass.
It has a temperate climate, so the only times you have to worry about being cold is during the night or sometimes when it rains.
You’ll find caves scattered all over the landscape of The Grasslands. We recommend finding a flat area that’s near one of the caves as you’ll need to enter it often to harvest resources.
When you’re ready to start building your base, you’ll first need to craft a Village Square, which requires the following ingredients:
Village Square Recipe |
---|
12 x Wood |
When you’re able to, building a fence around your village can help lower the chances of enemies invading your base.
A few skeletons may spawn inside, still, but you’ll have to deal with far fewer enemies at night this way.
What Building And Crafting Resources Can You Find In the Grasslands?
As you walk around the grasslands, you’ll come across pieces of wood and granite on the ground you can pick up until you begin making tools.
Once you have some tools, you can begin harvesting the various trees, rocks, and underground areas for building resources such as:
Wood |
---|---|
Can be harvested from any of the trees, logs on the ground, or roots underground. |
Granite |
You can either pick up rocks on the ground or pickaxe large rocks to get granite. |
Vines |
These you can get by breaking any of the bushes, or when you harvest pumpkins and corn. |
Sand |
You can dig up Sand with a shovel either in The Shore biome, which is usually near Grasslands, or in the Dry Valley biome. The sand can be used in the Metal Smelter to create glass. |
This can only be found inside the caves in the Grasslands. They look like pale, twisted roots along the walls underground. |
Like the knotroot, you’ll only find this in caves in the Grasslands. Marble nodes can be found along the walls or ceilings of the caves. There are also some hills in the Grasslands where you’ll find this resource above ground. |
Also inside the Grasslands caves, you can find these bright yellow clusters of Rough Amber. You can break them with an Uncommon Pickaxe or higher. |
The first metal you find in this game is copper, and can be found in caves in the Grasslands. Once you have some, you can make Copper Bars in a smelter for weapons and tools. |
This material can be obtained by petting sheep and then spun into Wool Thread on the Spinning Wheel. |
Feathers |
These are dropped by chickens when you kill them along with meat, but you might also be able to find some feathers in chests around the biome. |
You won’t find these shells on the beach. They’re dropped by rollers after you defeat them. |
Claws |
There are wolves all over the grasslands. They’ll either attack you outright, or you’ll come upon them going after some sheep or cows. Kill them, and you’ll get both meat and claws. |
You’ll run into many spiders while foraging and traveling. Kill them, and they’ll drop silk for you, which you can later turn into Silk Thread on the Spinning Wheel. |
Stink Gland |
Stink Glands are usually dropped by Scorpians, which can be found in Grasslands Caves and both Dry Valley and Frostlands biomes. It can be used to make Stink Jars that you throw at enemies to damage them with poison. |
Bone |
At night, the skeletons come out to attack. Defeat them, and they’ll drop bones for you to use in various crafting recipes. Bones are also a great way to get Biomass for Power Cells by putting them in a Composter. |
It used to be that you could only get Cursed Bones from Bone Wolves inside the Frostland Caves. However, now, you can get them in any biome during the night. Defeat one of the Bone Wolves that come out with the skeletons and it’ll drop a Cursed Bone for you. |
Bear Pelt |
Bears are a type of monster that you can find roaming around the Grasslands. They are tougher than wolves, but not as tough as the Brutes. Once defeated, they’ll drop a Bear Pelt for you that can be used in crafting recipes like a Rare Health Charm. |
Brute Scale |
These monsters are the bosses of the biome and are difficult to defeat. Luckily, you won’t need one until you’re ready for the final crafting table upgrade. You’ll usually find them somewhere along the Shore, but they can also be found in the rolling hills. |
What Food Resources Can You Find In The Grasslands?
It won’t be long until you realize you need to eat something to keep your health up.
Luckily, the Grasslands biome is full of food resources that will keep you from starving. Also, as you forage and open chests, you’ll start finding seeds that you can use to grow food in your own village.
Meat |
---|---|
You can get meat by killing any of the animals, as well as from the scorpions in the caves and hermit crabs on the Shore. |
Raspberries |
Raspberry bushes grow in abundance all over the Grasslands. |
Slurp Mushrooms |
You can find these in any caves (all biomes). Break them apart. They can’t be eaten, but once you build a Juicer machine, you can use Slurp Mushrooms and Raspberries to make Slurp Juice. |
Corn |
You’ll find plenty of corn stalks scattered around the Grasslands. These can be eaten raw, but Corn on the Cob grants you health plus two minutes of energy regeneration. |
Pumpkins |
Pumpkins usually grow on the outsides of the larger bushes. You can eat these raw for a quick health refill or save them to make Pumpkin Pies in the Oven later. |
You won’t find this growing around the Grasslands, but you may find chests that will contain either Wheat Stalks or Wheat Grain that you can plant and grow in your village. When you build a grain mill, you can use it to turn Wheat Grain into Flour for cooking. |
Slap berries |
You’ll find these on bushes much like the raspberries, but only along the Shore areas. Use the Juicer to turn these into Slap Juice. Eat one berry for one minute of energy regeneration, or one Slap Juice for two minutes of energy regeneration. |
Milk |
If you pet the cows instead of killing them, they’ll drop milk for you! You can also feed them (any berries or vines), and they might drop more. You can drink the milk, or save them to make Chillberry Shakes in the Juicer. |
Eggs |
The chickens may be annoying, but petting them will drop eggs. These are good to make Fried Eggs with on the grill, or you can save them for other recipes later. |
When you have enough planks to build a grill, you can use it to cook meat, corn, and eggs. The cooked versions of these foods will satisfy your hunger more and give you more health.

The Dry Valley: Tips, Resources, And Food Sources
As you progress through the game, you’ll soon unlock recipes requiring resources not readily available in the Grasslands, forcing you to start venturing into the Dry Valley to find these items.
It can be a long walk, depending on the layout of your map, so at some point, you may want to start building a village there.
However, the Dry Valley is very hot, and without the proper protection, it will be difficult to navigate the desert as the heat begins to damage your health.
When you have what you need to survive the desert, establishing a village is a great way to have easier access to the resources the Dry Valley provides.
Additionally, as you upgrade your Dry Valley village, you’ll begin to unlock the Majestic Manors set of build recipes that you can use anywhere you want.
What Building And Crafting Resources Can You Find In The Dry Valley?
Dry Valley has a few basic materials you’ll need for building: Wood, Granite, Vines, and Silk from the sand spiders. However, there are some that you’ll only find in the desert, with a few caveats.
This special wood is only found in the Dry Valley biome and is obtained by chopping down Cacti. You will need a Common Forest Axe or above to be able to chop these. |
The desert version of the Roller, called the Sand Roller, will drop Sand Shells when defeated. They are much stronger than the Grasslands variety, so be sure to bring a good sword and shield. |
Sand wolves are much like the wolves in the Grasslands, but meaner and stronger. Defeat these, and they’ll drop Sand Claws for you, which you’ll need for some recipes. |
On top of the Dry Valley cliffs and inside the lava caves, you’ll find a blue-ish mineral called Obsidian. For this you’ll need a Rare Pickaxe or better. |
Red gem clusters found on the walls of Dry Valley caves are Rough Ruby. You’ll need a Rare Pickaxe or better to harvest this gem. |
These bright, glowing clusters can be found deep inside the Dry Valley Lava Caves. They can be used for smelting metal in the smelter and crafting lamps and lanterns. |
You find these black creatures called Blasters either inside Dry Valley Lava Caves or above ground in Dry Valley. When alerted, they will flash red until they explode. Whether you defeat them or allow them to explode, they’ll drop Blast Core, which can be used for various recipes |
Sand Brute Scale |
The desert version of the Brute, the Sand Brute, is meaner and drops a Sand Brute Scale when defeated. This can be used for some higher-level recipes. |
*Sand Shells and Sand Claws can also be found on The Shore.
What Food Resources Can You Find In Dry Valley?
The Desert doesn’t provide as many food options as the Grasslands does. You can still get eggs from chickens, but you won’t find any cows, berries, or pumpkins.
The only two sources of food you’ll find in the desert are meat from killing wolves, chickens, or scorpions, and scavenging some Spicy Peppers.
You are able to plant crops in both Dry Valley and the Frostlands, so when you’re ready to build a village in either of those biomes, bring plenty of soil, fertilizer, and seeds with you so that you’ll always have an available food source.

The Frostlands: Tips, Resources, And Food Sources
The Frostlands is the most dangerous of the three main biomes, and venturing here should only be done after you’ve spent a lot of time in both the other two biomes, leveling up your health and tools.
Even so, having a village in the Frostlands is a great way to be close to this biome’s resources and give you a safe place to wait out the night by building a bed to set as your respawn point.
When you start upgrading your Frostlands village, you’ll begin to unlock the Shogun Palace set of build recipes that can be used anywhere in the game.
What Building And Crafting Resources Can You Find In The Frostlands?
Basic wood and granite can be difficult to find in the Frostlands, so bring plenty of both with you when you first head out there. Vines, however, can be found in abundance by chopping the bushes. And there are frost spiders that drop regular silk.
The resources you’ll find only in the Frostlands are:
These evergreens covered in snow grow tall and proud. So proud that only the strongest of Forest Axes (Epic) can cut them down to give you Frostpine wood. |
You can get Frost Shells from these Frost Rollers in the Frostlands. |
These blue wolves may look pretty, but they are mean and can take half your health in a single bite if you’re not careful. Once defeated, they will drop Arctic Claws, which can be used in a few recipes. |
When you pet or feed the rams in the Frostlands, they’ll drop Heavy Wool for you. You can spin this into Heavy Wool Thread, which can be used or a few high-level recipes. |
It is a greenish mineral that can be found along the mountainsides of the Frostlands. Just like Obsidian, they can be cut into slabs in a Stone Cutter and used for recipes. |
You’ll find these inside the ice caves in the Frostlands. |
It is a metal that you’ll find only in the ice caves. It can be smelted into Iron Bars, and then used to make Epic tools and weapons. |
Frost Bear Pelt |
Frost Bears, like anything else in the Frostlands, is a much tougher enemy than the bears in the Grasslands. Once defeated, it’ll drop a Frost Bear Pelt for you to use in crafting. |
Frost Brute Scale |
The Frostlands version of the Brute is mean and ready for a fight. Once defeated, he will drop a Frost Brute Scale. |
What Food Resources Can You Find In The Frostlands?
As with the desert, the Frostlands provides very little in the way of food resources, so before coming out here we suggest bringing plenty of things to eat.
You’ll still be able to get meat from killing wolves, scorpions, cows, and sheep. You can also get milk from the cows up here. The only other food option you’ll find in the Frostlands are chillberries, which are used in the Chillberry Shakes.
Raspberries, Slap Berries, and Chillberries can also be used along with Flour to make Fruit Pies when you unlock the Oven.
Fruit Pies fill up a substantial amount of hunger and health while also giving you two minutes of energy regeneration.
Lost Isles: Tips, Resources, And Food Sources
The Lost Isles is a large biome in Lego Fortnite Odyssey with a bunch of small mini-biomes within. You can find all the basic resources that you would find in other biomes, like wood, granite, roller shells (both normal and sand shells). But each mini-biome also offers different crafting and food resources for you to use.
The mini-biomes found in Lost Isles are:
- Plains
- Beaches
- Jungle
- Mountains
Thankfully, it doesn’t matter where you decide to build a village, as it all counts for Lost Isles.
What Building And Crafting Resources Can You Find In Lost Isles?
Most of the crafting resources available in Lost Isles follow the usual pattern: special wood, rock, gem, and metal. All of these are used in crafting recipes for builds, tools, and weapons.
Mahogany |
---|---|
Mahogany is a red wood that can be used for a lot of building recipes in Lost Isles. The trees that drop mahogany look like really large bushes and seem to have multiple trunks ground out of it, which is different from the trees where you get regular wood from. |
Red Rock |
Around all the Lost Isles biome you’ll see large red rocks, and if you break them with a pickaxe you’ll get pieces of red rock that can be turned into slabs in a Stone Breaker. |
Rough Emerald |
You’ll find clusters of green emeralds inside the caves of the Lost Isles. This gem, once cut in your Gem Cutter, can be used to make stronger weapons and tools. |
Gold Ore |
The Lost Isles is also not without its very own metal ore. Inside the same caves where you find Rough Emerald you can also find Gold Ore. Gold ore can be used in crafting weapons and tools to make them sturdier. |
Rift Shards |
Rift Shards are a necessary ingredient for building Battle Bus stops. There are only two ways to obtain Rift Shards: defeat Tomato Golems in Lost Isles, or destroy existing Battle Bus stops. |
What Food Resources Can You Find In Lost Isles?
Lost Isles has plenty of food resources available for you, so you won’t have to worry about not having anything to eat here. Many of these, except for the Klomberry, can be eaten as is or cooked in a recipe to provide more health.
Pineapple |
---|---|
Pineapple plants are found around the beaches of Lost Isles, and sometimes in the caves as well. This fruit can either be eaten, or used in recipes like Hawaiian Pizza or Tropical Smoothie. |
Klomberry |
Klomberry bushes are all over the Plains in the Lost Isles. You don’t eat this fruit, however. Instead, when you find a Klombo creature, feed it a Klomberry to befriend it. Once you’ve befriended a Klombo, you can ride one around the Lost Isles. |
Tomatoes |
Tomatoes are mostly found in the jungles of Lost Isles. If you happen to get tomato seeds, you can also add it to your garden to grow more. Roasted Tomatoes can help fill up your hunger, but they’re better used in the Hawaiian Pizza recipe. |
Coconuts |
Coconut trees are all over the Lost Isle Beaches. They can usually be found on the tall palm trees, but can also be found in chests inside some of the structures on the beaches. |
Bananas |
Bananas are the hardest to find, but it is possible. Look for palm trees that are a little shorter and stockier than the coconut trees. They’ll usually be on hills rather than on the sand. |
Storm Biome: Tips, Resources, And Food Sources
Due to the Storm Biome’s hazardous effects, you are not able to build a village in or around the Storm area. Storms can be found in any of the three main biomes.
Even though you can’t build a village here, it is not without it’s resources. Many of the resources you’ll find inside the Storm can either help you with the Storm’s effects, defeat the enemies, or give you the ability to craft Legendary weapons.
Storm Core |
---|---|
The Storm Core contains a lot of storm energy in it and is used in the Totem of Return recipe. Defeating Storm-Wild enemies, like the Storm-Wild Tomatoes in the Lost Isles or the enemies in the Storm Dungeon. |
Storm Shell |
Storm Shells drop after defeating Storm Rollers, but these enemies are a little tougher than their other biomes’ counterparts. Not only do they roll into you and throw things at you, but when they roll they leave a path of storm energy behind that can damage you. |
Greater Storm Core |
Greater Storm Core can be dropped by stronger enemies in the Storm Dungeons, or found in the chest on each level of the dungeon. |
Eye of the Storm |
The only use for the Eye of the Storm is to open the portal to the Storm King’s realm to defeat him. To collect Eye of the Storm, you need to venture into the Storm Dungeon and complete each level. The chest at the end of each level will give you this resource, while some enemies will also drop it for you. |
Rift Crystal |
Rift Crystal is another item you’ll receive dropped by some Storm-Wild enemies, or in chests in the dungeon. These can be used to craft a Legendary Forge to make stronger tools and weapons. |
Storm Fruit |
Storm Fruit, which can either be gathered from bushes in and around the Storm or dropped by Storm-Wild enemies, can be made into a drink called Storm Fruit Nectar. This drink extends your storm timer so you can last longer inside the storm. |
Shatterhorn Fragment |
Only obtained when you defeat the Storm King, this item can be used to craft the Zapping IV rune and the Legendary Storm Charm. |
