If you somehow can’t get enough of Vampire Survivors, then boy do we have some news for you. That’s because, according to the Poncle and company, Vampire Survivors will make its way to the big screen as part of a live-action movie that’s being developed in partnership with Story Kitchen — a media company dedicated to video game adaptations.

In a 2024 recap and look ahead to 2025 shared on Steam, Poncle provided a status update on its live-action ambitions.
We’re still working with Story Kitchen on a live-action film, respecting all the strikes and taking our time to get things right.
As mentioned last year, rather than jumping the gun and make stuff for the sake of making it, we have preferred to wait to find partners that felt right, especially because to make anything that isn’t a videogame out of VS requires good ideas, creativity, and that quirky knowledge of the game, that is a very difficult triplet to get 100% right. Please remember the game has no plot (it doesn’t?), so nobody can really anticipate how a film about it is going to be, that is part of what makes it exciting.
In addition, “a few other cross-media” endeavors are also planned. It’s unclear what those are, but the header for the announcement is “TV Show and other media.” Back in 2023, it was revealed that the game would become an animated series, so perhaps those two things are related.
Other Noteworthy Tidbits
The wrapup post also had several other bits that will pique the interest of Vampire Survivors players. For starters, Cross Save functionality is finally coming to the game as part of Patch 1.13. Additionally, Online Co-Op is still in the works, with “hope we’ll be able to launch it this year.”
As far as future paid DLC or expansions goes, that is a bit more complicated. Poncle states a problem that “anything new will have to be able to somewhat be comparable to the latest expansion: Ode to Castlevania.”
Difficulty in producing that level of content for a similar cost or lower and within a similar timeframe is seemingly not as feasible, per the post. Still, the creator notes “I’d love to make at the very least one more original expansion for Vampire Survivors,” so all hope isn’t lost on the front.
Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how a somewhat mindless game that wears its inspirations on its sleeves manages to make the transition not only into an animated series, but also a live-action movie. Given the major success of ongoing video game adaptations, it’s certainly worth a gamble.
