- Fan reaction to the Code Violet trailer has been largely negative.
Upcoming PlayStation 5 horror game Code Violet is taking direct inspiration from Capcom’s Dino Crisis franchise. The original Dino Crisis game launched in 1999 as a PS1 exclusive before eventually making its way to the Sega Dreamcast and PC. For those unfamiliar with the game, the basic concept behind Dino Crisis is offering a survival-horror experience similar to Resident Evil, but swapping the zombies with dinosaurs.
This was a winning formula. Dino Crisis earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its original PS1 launch and sold millions of copies, kickstarting yet another franchise for Capcom. The follow-up, Dino Crisis 2, was also well-received, but Dino Crisis 3 was panned for its departure from series’ norms and poor gameplay. Sadly for fans, the Dino Crisis series has been on ice ever since the Dino Crisis 3 debacle in 2003, prompting other studios to step up and fill the void.

2025 is Shaping up to Be the Year of Dinosaur Horror
Some upcoming horror releases that feature dinosaurs as a core element could see 2025 become the year that marks the rise of such titles.
One such developer is TeamKill Media, which has announced a new PS5 exclusive dinosaur horror game called Code Violet. TeamKill, the developer of PS5 horror game Quantum Error, has described Code Violet as a “spiritual successor” to Dino Crisis. The trailer showcases vibes that recall 00s horror games with its tone and art style. The game is about protagonist Violet Sinclair attempting to survive in a futuristic facility that has been overrun with dinosaurs, with players having to contend with velociraptors and even a T-Rex, with the latter shown during a chase sequence where the player is trying to escape in a jeep. In typical survival-horror fashion, players will have the option of fighting the dinosaurs head-on, but sometimes it may be better to avoid or hide from them.
Code Violet is a New Dinosaur Horror Game for PS5
The Code Violet trailer is light on gameplay, but it does seem to show an over-the-shoulder camera ala Resident Evil 4. It also indicates that Violet will have some serious weaponry to defend herself against the dinosaurs that stalk her throughout the game. And while Violet is the main character, there is also a male character who looks a lot like Resident Evil‘s Leon S. Kennedy. In any case, horror fans aching for a new dinosaur horror game should note that Code Violet is launching as a PS5 exclusive in July 2025.
So far, the reaction to the Code Violet trailer has been widely negative. Many fans have criticized Code Violet‘s graphics, which are certainly not on par with other PS5 exclusive games, and others have taken aim at the bizarre story. Fans will have to reserve their final judgment for when Code Violet launches this July. In the meantime, those who miss Dino Crisis should note that it’s readily available on PS5 and can even be played with a PS Plus Premium subscription.
