Pokemon TCG Pocket Brings Back Controversial Event

The latest Pokemon TCG Pocket update brings the Mythical Island SP Emblem event back to the game to the lamentation of many fans. Each Pokemon TCG Pocket event allows gamers to unlock limited-time rewards by playing the game, but this event is a controversial one.

When it was released in October 2024, Pokemon TCG Pocket effectively replaced Pokemon TCG Live as the popular mobile hub for fans of the trading card game. While it was appreciated by much of the Pokemon TCG community, Live was overlooked by many casual Pokemon fans. Since it was released, Pokemon TCG Pocket has been downloaded by over 60 million players, who have spent more than $400 million collectively on in-game microtransactions. Although these microtransactions don’t necessarily provide players with an advantage in Pokemon battles, they allow players to unlock cards faster. The latest Pokemon TCG Pocket event is a returning Mythical Island one that many gamers haven’t missed since it left.

The Pokemon TCG Pocket developers celebrate the community’s latest in-game achievement by giving away a free card to all players.

The Serebii Twitter account recently confirmed that the Mythical Island SP Emblem event has been added back to Pokemon TCG Pocket in the latest update. The event allows players to unlock rewards by participating in and winning versus battles. Among the rewards being offered during the event are varying levels of the Mythical Island SP Emblem, Shinedust, and Pack Hourglasses. To reach the Gold-tier Mythical Island SP Emblem, players must win five consecutive battles against other players, which also unlocks 200 Pokemon TCG Pocket Shinedust. Many Reddit users are among the gamers regretting that this event has returned, with one suggesting that it caused suffering.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Fans Are Divided Over the Mythical Island SP Emblem Event

As was confirmed by Pokemon TCG Pocket, the Pack Hourglasses can be stockpiled for the next expansion. This element may make the otherwise unsavory event more enticing to lapsed Pokemon TCG Pocket fans who want a leg up when the next booster pack is added. Unlike the Mythical Island SP Emblem event, other events have allowed players to unlock rewards by doing standard daily challenges like selecting Wonder Picks. The latest event revolving around original Pokemon rival Blue offered rewards like the Blue and Blastoise Binder Cover and Card Back, Blue and Tiny Temple Backdrops, and more.

While unlocking rewards while receiving cards may feel more rewarding, Pokemon TCG Pocket may simply be trying to get more players to participate in battles. Although trade is still labeled as “coming soon,” future events may also look to encourage player trading. As DeNA continues to update Pokemon TCG Pocket, the next event may be an improvement from the Mythical Island SP one.
