A Pokemon fan artist designed a Mega Evolution concept for the Steel-type critter Klinklang and shared their efforts on social media with their peers. The artist also took time to answer questions about Klinklang’s design and was complimented by other Pokemon trainers for their efforts.
Known as the Gear Pokemon, Klinklang first appeared in Pokemon Black and White as the final evolution of Klink and Klang. Klinklang evolves from Klang at level 49 and can use the abilities Plus, Minus, or Clear Body. As a pure Steel-type Pokemon, Klinklang boasts high physical attack and defense statistics but is hindered by its low HP and special attack stats. Klinklang’s signature attack, Gear Grind, can strike between two and five consecutive times with a potency of 50 attack power. Klinklang can also use Electric-type attacks like Wild Charge and Volt Switch to keep opponents on their toes.

Although Klinklang is unobtainable in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, that has not stopped one trainer from giving the Gear Pokemon a new form. On the r/pokemon subreddit, a user named cdb_animations shared their Mega Klinklang design concept. Compared to the base form of Klinklang and its previous states, Mega Klinklang gained additional Klink gears on its body upon evolving, with three blue and two red gems scattered across its main frame. Each gear had varying amounts of spikes on them, adding some uniqueness to Mega Klinklang’s design concept. Mega Klinklang’s metallic body consists of up to 11 gears, over twice the amount of Klinklang’s base form. A large red gem acted as Mega K1linklank’s core, and three atomic swirl patterns encircled it. The swirls were colored red, blue, and yellow, with the yellow ring going around Mega Klinklang in a horizontal pattern.

However, cdb_animations did not state what moves, statistics, or abilities Klinklang’s Mega form would have in a Pokemon battle compared to other official Mega Evolution forms. In response, Pokemon trainers complimented cdb_animations for their handiwork but expressed confusion over Mega Klinklang’s title. In response to one comment, cdb_animations stated that Klinklang was called “Cliticlic” in French, and apologized for any confusion that resulted from the name.
Other Pokemon fans listed Goldeen and Starmie, whose French names are Poissirene and Starross respectively, as examples of English and French differences in Pokemon names. With Mega Evolution confirmed to return as a main feature of the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it remains to be seen if Klinklang will receive an official Mega form.
