Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Think the Game is Hiding a Secret Pink Ninja

Summary

  • Conan the Barbarian will be added to Mortal Kombat 1 on January 21.
  • Those able to play the character early spotted the name ‘Floyd’ pop up in pink letters with a distinct guitar riff in the background.
  • Some believe that this Easter egg hints at a hidden Floyd boss battle in Mortal Kombat 1, with a rumored connection to Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon’s past comments.

Mortal Kombat 1 fans think there might be a hidden character coming to the game in the latest DLC, and one that series creator Ed Boon has been hinting at for some time. On January 21, the legendary warrior Conan the Barbarian will lend his mighty sword to the carnage of Mortal Kombat 1 as the latest special guest character of Kombat Pack 2, joining the infamous Ghostface killer of the Scream franchise and the yet-unreleased T-1000 of Terminator 2 fame.

Some of Conan’s Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay was shown off in a new trailer last week, giving players a glimpse at some of the silver-screen hero’s attacks, pre-fight character interactions, and grisly Fatality finishers. Just like the previous Mortal Kombat 1 guest characters before him, Conan is recreated faithfully in-game, down to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s digital likeness and voice actor Chris Cox stepping in for him as he did with the Terminator back in Mortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Seasons May Be Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Mortal Kombat 1’s latest season of Invasions made a move that could potentially make players wonder about what the game’s future holds.

Some Mortal Kombat 1 players have spotted a new Easter egg tucked away in Conan’s recent gameplay footage, and one that doesn’t pertain to the famed swordsman. Fighting game YouTuber Super was recently able to play as Conan ahead of his release on January 21 and shared something they noticed during a mirror match. During Conan’s victory animation, the name “Floyd” briefly pops up in pink letters as a distinct guitar rift plays in the background.

Secret Character Floyd Might Finally Debut in Mortal Kombat 1

Super says that they had no idea what triggered this, and they haven’t been able to replicate it since. Meanwhile, fellow Twitter user thetiny had the same experience and claimed that a certain action triggered the Floyd pop-up. Fans have started to draw theories about what it means by pointing out a tidbit shared by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon a few years ago, in which he stated that he would like to add a pink-clad ninja named Floyd to the Mortal Kombat universe at some point. In 2023, thetiny reportedly uncovered text in some Mortal Kombat 1 source code referencing Floyd, adding more fuel to the new theory.

Floyd’s name and supposed pink attire are seemingly a reference to the band Pink Floyd, just like fellow Mortal Kombat ninja Rain is a nod to the classic Prince song “Purple Rain.” Now it looks like Floyd could finally appear in the flesh in Mortal Kombat 1 as a hidden boss battle, but only time will tell if players will get to play as the rumored ninja themselves, assuming they appear at all. In the meantime, Conan the Barbarian will arrive to crush his enemies and see them driven before him in Mortal Kombat 1 on January 21.
