Fans of Bosch: Legacy are preparing for the final ten episodes of the series to air in March 2025. However, the fight is still on to save the show with the Save Bosch: Legacy petition. Michael Connelly created the Bosch-verse, and his books have provided the inspiration for every season of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. Connelly is also an executive producer on the show, and he should have been given the ultimate say on when it ended.

Michael Connelly helped to launch Amazon’s streaming service with his Harry Bosch crime stories, and they owe him everything. Amazon canceled Bosch: Legacy without giving Connelly and the rest of the creative team the opportunity to end the story properly, and this doesn’t sit right with the fans.

Michael Connelly Earned The Right End Bosch: Legacy On His Terms And Deserves More Respect From Amazon

Amazon’s statement announcing the end of Bosch: Legacy made it seem like they’d reached a mutual decision with Michael Connelly. This viewpoint was backed up when Connelly’s own statement praised the streamer for bringing Harry Bosch to television screens, and he called it a ‘fitting end’. However, Connelly’s hands were tied with this statement, due to his continued involvement with Amazon on the Ballard spin-off. Amazon informed Connelly that Bosch: Legacy would be ending while he was working on Ballard, and filming on Bosch: Legacy season 3 had already been completed, leaving him absolutely powerless. After over a decade of successful stories in the Bosch-verse, Connelly should have decided when Harry Bosch’s solo stories would end. As Harry Bosch says in the show, ‘Legacy matters’, but unfortunately, Michael Connelly’s legacy means nothing to Amazon, and Bosch: Legacy will now bow out on an abrupt note.

After over a decade of successful stories in the Bosch-verse, Connelly should have decided when Harry Bosch’s solo stories would end.

Michael Connelly and Titus Welliver had a clear vision for the Bosch-verse from the very start, and the story was panning out exactly as planned, until Amazon canceled it last year. They should have trusted Connelly’s vision, and allowed him and the creative team to choose the right time to bring Harry Bosch’s main story to a close. The Ballard spin-off was designed as a companion show to run concurrently with Bosch: Legacy, but Amazon lost their nerve and chose to ditch the expansion of the exciting television crime universe Connelly had envisioned.

Michael Connelly can’t speak out against Amazon because they own the rights to Harry Bosch. For the first ten years of the ‘special relationship’, this wasn’t a problem as everyone was on the same page. Unfortunately, there has been a change in command at Amazon, and it’s now run by incompetent people like Vernon Sanders and Lauren Anderson, who are focused on advertising and algorithms at the expense of quality content. Amazon have used Reacher to kill Bosch: Legacy, while also renewing shows like Cross before it even aired its first season, because it fits in with their advertising strategy. Amazon were hoping to end Bosch: Legacy without any fuss, but they were caught off-guard by a fan-led petition to save the show.

Michael Connelly acknowledged the petition, and it now boasts over 21,000 signatures, and it has raised a lot of questions about Amazon. Connelly’s contract clause revealed that he fought to keep production of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy in Los Angeles, and he conceded that Amazon would never agree to that now. Heads up Amazon: Los Angeles needs shows like Bosch: Legacy more than ever, as the Hollywood industry crumbles after a series of devastating events. Connelly and the creative team have plenty more ideas for Harry Bosch’s solo stories, but they are tied to Amazon because of the Ballard spin-off, and this is a great shame. Bosch and Ballard are co-leads in Michael Connelly’s joint books, but Titus Welliver’s contract is only for three episodes in the spin-off, while Connelly’s plans for Bosch: Legacy have been totally disregarded.
