Marvel Snap Still Down In The US Despite TikTok Ban Reversal

Marvel Snap Still Down In The US Despite TikTok Ban Reversal

Summary

  • Marvel Snap is currently unavailable in the US, seemingly a side effect of the TikTok ban.
  • However, even though TikTok returned almost immediately, Marvel Snap remains down.
  • Its developers have assured players they’re doing all they can to get Snap back up and operational.

A game of chicken years in the making between TikTok and the US government came to a head over the weekend, and it resulted in the incredibly popular social media platform becoming unavailable for American users, but only very briefly. TikTok has since been reinstated, however, Marvel Snap, which was unexpectedly caught in the crossfire, is still down in the US.

Marvel Snap studio Second Dinner issued a statement in the early hours of Sunday morning, confirming the app was not only unavailable through the app store in the US, but even to those who already have it downloaded. Seemingly a side effect of the brief TikTok ban, while still not confirmed, Snap’s unexpected nationwide outage is likely the result of its publisher Nuverse being owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance.

Snap players think the Rivals variants should be cheaper Rares instead of 1,200 gold Super Rares.

TikTok’s 170 million US users were allowed back into the app on Sunday, which is why it’s very odd that Snap remains unavailable. If the two are connected, which seems almost certain, then you’d have thought Snap would have become available again, and returned to the app store, along with TikTok, but that has not been the case.

Marvel Snap isn’t the only mobile game to have been caught in the TikTok crossfire either. Other titles, including One Punch Man – The Strongest, and Watcher Of Realms have also suffered outages, presumably due to the companies that own them.

Even before TikTok had been reinstated, Snap’s developers assured players that the card game would not be gone from the US for long. Since then Second Dinner has continued to issue updates, urging players with a Snap-shaped hole in their lives to support those who can still play and are streaming on Twitch. It has also promised to compensate those missing out on daily missions and rewards in some way once this issue has been resolved.

The last update from the team at the time of typing this was on Monday morning via the official Marvel Snap account, confirming work is ongoing to get the app back online. That update assured players Snap will hopefully be back up and operational within the next 12 hours, so hopefully before the end of the day.
