One of the first Pokemon encountered by many Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players is Rookidee, and they have the chance to evolve it into a Corviknight. From Pidgeot to Staraptor to Talonflame, players have been able to essentially have a second starter in the first bird they see. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet doesn’t add a new Pokemon of this sort but brought back Corviknight, who filled this niche in Pokemon Sword & Shield.
Updated on January 20, 2025 by Renri Seong: Flying-type Rookidee is a small Pokemon that evolves into the mighty Flying/Steel-type Corviknight. This evolution line made their debut in Gen 8’s Sword/Shield, and they’ve returned to Gen 9 in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. The Paldea region is home to a variety of Flying and Steel-type Pokemon, so trainers may be wondering if Corviknight still holds up a generation later. The following guide has been revamped to include specific information on where to find the Rookidee line and how to evolve Rookidee into Corviknight.

Where to Find Rookidee in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Rookidee & Corvisquire Locations
Rookidee and Corvisquire are Pokemon that you can catch very early in your playthrough. You can catch them in South Province (Area One, Three, Five) and East Province (Area One, Two, Three). Among these locations, you may want to catch Rookidee in East Province (Area Three). This is straight out the east gate of Mesagoza, in the same direction as the Stony Cliff Titan.
If you don’t have any gym badges, caught Pokemon will only obey you up to level 20. The Rookidee in South Province (Area Three) are around level 15-16. Occasionally, you may see a group of Rookidee surrounding a Corvisquire. If you want to skip evolving Rookidee, just catch the Corvisquire.
Another way to get Rookidee and Corvisquire is to catch them in Tera Raids:
- Rookidee: 1-star Tera Raid
- Corvisquire: 3-star Tera Raid (unlocks after getting 3 gym badges)
How to Evolve Rookidee into Corvisquire and Corviknight
Rookidee Evolution Level
To evolve Rookidee into Corviknight, you’ll need to first evolve it into Corvisquire (level 18). When Corvisquire reaches level 38, it will evolve into Corviknight. The quickest way to level your Rookidee/Corvisquire is to feed it Exp. Candy (M, L, XL).
Alternatively, you can catch Corviknight from 5-star or 6-star Tera Raids. 5-star Tera Raids unlock after you’ve completed “The Way Home” main quest. If you want 6-star Tera Raids, you’ll need to complete the postgame story (Academy Ace Tournament) and clear out some Tera Raids. You’ll receive a call from Jacq when the 6-star Tera Raids become available.
Fixed Corviknight Location
If you check Corviknight’s dex entry, you’ll see that it says “HABITAT UNKNOWN.” Despite this, you can find a wild Terastallized Corviknight in North Province (Area Two), east of Firescourge Shrine, home of legendary Pokemon Chi-Yu. The Corviknight in North Province (Area Two) has a Fighting Tera-type. You can change its Tera Type by going to the Treasure Eatery in Medali.

Is Corviknight Good in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?
Corviknight Stats & Type Effectiveness
Unlike its pre-evolved forms, Corviknight is a Flying/Steel-type. This means it learns moves that give it coverage against types that most Flying-types don’t have. However, it also gains more type weaknesses.
Stat-wise, Corviknight has high Defense, working better as a wall rather than a fighter:
HP: |
98 |
---|---|
Attack: |
87 |
Special Attack: |
53 |
Defense: |
105 |
Special Defense: |
85 |
Speed: |
67 |
Total: |
495 |
Because of its low base Special Attack, Corviknight should have physical moves rather than special moves. For example, it’s better to have Corviknight learn Steel Wing (which it learns upon leveling) instead of the special move, Flash Cannon. If you want to increase its Defense in battle, make sure it has Iron Defense in its moveset.
A recommended Nature for Corviknight is Impish (+Def, -Sp. Attk). You can also work with a Careful (+Sp. Def, -Sp. Attk) Nature, but generally, Impish is preferred.
If you use Corviknight for battle, you should familiarize yourself with its strengths and weaknesses:
Super-effective against: |
Grass, Bug, Fighting, Rock, Fairy, Ice |
---|---|
Weaknesses: |
Fire, Electric |
Resistances: |
Grass (1/4x), Bug (1/4x), Normal, Steel, Flying, Dragon, Fairy, Psychic |
Immunities: |
