You can never have enough Linen during the late game in Aloft. It’s essential to have a good stock of them if you are planning on giving the final Biome a visit. You can craft Linen Sails and Clothes using it, which will keep you alive while exploring it.
Obtaining Linen will require you to go through a rigorous exploration of the Fallen Heights to get some Flax. Growing Flax is also the fastest way of securing a good yield, which will save you the trouble of searching for them every time. You also need to process Flax using the necessary buildings to craft Linen.
How To Get Linen
You won’t be able to obtain Linen in Aloft if you haven’t progressed to the second biome, namely Fallen Heights. Here you will need to find Flax which is the main ingredient to craft Linen.
The islands are randomized in every world, so this guide does not contain the exact location for Flax, but you can find the second Biome islands in the upper part of your map ring. So keep checking and visiting every island here till you find some.
How To Get Flax
You will recognize Flax as they are indigo-colored flowers. Harvesting the flowers will also yield some seeds you can farm on your home island. Each harvest from your farm will give you four Flax flowers and one Flax Seed. You should also note that Flax cannot be regrown, but you can use the seeds you obtain to produce them repeatedly.
To harvest them you need a scythe which you can craft by using one wood, two sharp stones and one rope.
How To Craft Linen
Flax needs to be processed into Fibres to craft Linen. You can do that by building a Flax Break. To build a Flax Break, you need the following materials.
- Three Wooden Cogs
- Five Planks
Once you have your Fibres, the next step is building a Loom which will weave your materials into your desired fabrics and, in this case Linen. To craft it you need the following.
- Five Carved Wood
- Five Wool Threads
- Two Wooden Cogs
How To Use Linen
Linen is an essential resource, especially if you are planning on venturing to the final Biome. You need to craft Linen sails to cross the meteor showers. Your sails will also get damaged repeatedly, and you need extra Linen in your inventory to repair them.
