Old Coins are the main collectible in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Scattered throughout China, these relics from a previous Dynasty don’t have any monetary value, but serve instead as proof of Ziluan’s esteem in the eyes of others. There are five hundred to be collected across multiple playthroughs of the story, and finding all of them takes both patience and skill.

When you’re just starting out, it’s a good idea to get in the habit of searching for Old Coins everywhere you go. The faster you build up your collection, the more rewards you’ll be able to use in future battles.

There are three main ways to collect Old Coins in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.

Find Them On The World Map

There are a limited number of Old Coins hidden on the World Map. Unlike other resources like Pyroxene and Moongrass, these don’t respawn; they can only be collected once.

Old Coins are hard to spot unless you’re standing right next to one, but they become easily visible when using the Eyes Of The Sacred Bird to look around. Whenever you unlock a new province, the first thing you should do is activate the Eyes and check everywhere for hidden Old Coins.

Complete Missions And Character Requests

Some side quests offered by your fellow officers grant Old Coins as a reward. Any time the story advances, look for new characters on the World Map to speak to. Even as simple a task as progressing a Bond storyline can earn you a few Old Coins.

You can easily see who is available for conversation by hovering over each province on the map menu, or by checking the Interactions tab at the Shui Jing Retreat (see below). Some characters won’t appear until you read a letter they’ve sent.

When you reach the end of the main game, be sure to finish any and all side quests before restarting. That way you won’t have to make your way back to the end point from the beginning of Chapter Five later.

Complete Ultimate Warrior Challenges

After finishing the main storyline, you’ll unlock Ultimate Warrior Difficulty. Playing a mission on Ultimate Warrior, either for the first time or replaying it from the Inn, adds an optional Challenge, usually related to finishing the objectives quickly or defeating a powerful character within certain constraits.

Ultimate Warrior Challenges have varying rewards, but many of them offer ten Old Coins. If you want to get the War God’s Sash for collecting all 500 Old Coins, you’re going to have to earn it.

How To Use Old Coins

Old Coins can be turned in at the Shui Jing Retreat, located next to the Inn in You Province at the north edge of the map. Upon entering the building, choose the Old Coins option; you’ll see a screen with all the available rewards, and receive any rewards that you’ve earned since your last visit.

You don’t need to spend Old Coins; rewards are given just for reaching each tier of the collection.

Normally, the only way to see what the reward thresholds are is to visit the Retreat. To save time, you can reference the chart below:
