Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Character Muting Trick Explained

Players have grown to love Disney Dreamlight Valley since it was released back in 2022. The hit simulation game has largely gained a fanbase due to its roster of easily recognizable characters from Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Studios. But not every single character featured in Disney Dreamlight Valley is loved. In fact, some players find certain villagers quite annoying.

If only there was a way for these more annoying villagers to quiet down every once in a while. Fortunately, Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Reddit community has banded together over the more chatty characters in the Valley, and uncovered a secret trick to mute even the most talkative of characters, at least for a little bit.

Though it may not have as large of a fanbase as Disney as a whole, Disney Dreamlight Valley beats its source material in one major way

The How and the Why Behind the Disney Dreamlight Valley Mute Trick

Talks began on the Disney Dreamlight Valley subreddit when u/SeraiStorms asked their fellow Redditors if they found any of the game’s villagers to make Disney Dreamlight Valley a less relaxing experience. Many players agreed that characters like Donald Duck and Vanellope can make quite a racket in the game’s background, but plenty of other villagers were mentioned.

Mentioned by u/vonn_v, players can force villagers to remain in their homes by opening the character list via the map. Players simply click on the character they no longer want to see, or hear, around the Valley. The portrait of the selected character should fade out. After completion, the next time a player leaves the building, the selected character should remain inside their house except when they eat at a restaurant like Chez Remy or visit Scrooge’s Store. There are some other exceptions to this rule. If a player has an open quest with the offending villager, the character will continue to wander the Valley. However, this issue should be fixed once the prompt for the quest is cleared, continuing business as usual in blissful silence.

With player response to this Reddit thread so intense and conclusive, it might be best for Gameloft to step in and offer a solution to players. Fortunately, another hit simulation game could be the best inspiration to shut up vexing characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How Disney Dreamlight Valley Could Incorporate an Official Banish Feature

Animal Crossing players are known for their dedication to perfecting their villages or islands and cultivating the perfect community of villagers. This is primarily done through villager hunting, but banishing villagers is just as important when it comes to the process.

Perhaps Disney Dreamlight Valley should take a similar, but not identical, approach when it comes to its villagers. Characters in the Valley can be necessary to progress the Friendship Quests of another character in the game. For example, to complete Sally’s Uncanny Romance Friendship Quest, players must talk to Jack Skellington about his upcoming date with Sally. If a player banned Jack from their village permanently, they would be unable to unlock Sally as a villager.

Therefore, banning a character from a player’s village should have a few conditions. First, the character can only be banished after completing all ten Friendship Levels of that character. Secondly, the character can return to the Valley if they are necessary to progress another villager’s Friendship Quest. Players should also be able to allow the character back into the Valley as they wish.

While these caveats may seem more complicated than this muting trick, having an official way to separate villagers in Disney Dreamlight Valley would likely be a feature that players would appreciate.
