  • They also say that the studio still has plans, although it’s unclear what it’s working on now.

Bend Studio says that it still has plans to make “cool sh*t”, after PlayStation cancelled its live-service game. The unannounced project was scrapped alongside Bluepoint Games’ God of War title, as Sony revises its live-service strategy.

It’s currently unclear what Bend Studio is working on, and if it had any games in development alongside the now-cancelled live-service. Its last new release was Days Gone in 2019, although it did port the game to PC in 2021.

Bend Studio Says It Still Has Plans After PlayStation Cancels Its Live-Service

The team apparently found out about the cancellation at the same time as us

As spotted by VGC, this was tweeted out by Bend Studio community manager Kevin McAllister. Here, he thanked the community for the “love and support” following the news that the studio’s latest game has been cancelled, adding that, “We still plan on creating cool sh*t”.

Earlier today, it was reported that both Bend and Bluepoint were blindsided by the decision to cancel their live-services. Apparently, they found out at the same time we did, and now have to pitch another project to Sony now that they don’t have these huge games to work on.

The reason for these cancellations has not been shared publicly, but it’s also being reported that the move comes in response to the failure of Concord. This live-service was shut down after just two weeks, and after plans to revive it were scrapped, Sony shut down its developer, Firewalk Studios. It’s not surprising that Sony would want to avoid another incident like this.

However, as we noted the other day, Bend seems to have ceased hiring new employees. It had seven job vacancies until very recently, and it seems these were taken down after its live-service was cancelled.
