Valhalla boasts an impressive arsenal of weapons and shields, paired with a flexible and engaging upgrade system. Not only do upgrades significantly boost stats, but they also alter the appearance of nearly every weapon at higher quality tiers. This updated list highlights some of the best weapons in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, showcasing their specs and striking designs.

Since each weapon’s stats can vary with every new upgrade within the same quality tiers (Fine, Superior, Flawless, Mythical, Divine), the weapons stats listed below reflect their current upgrade state as shown in the image.

Modraniht Ceremonial Seax

Bear Aligned, One-Handed Dagger

The Mōdraniht Ceremonial Seax is a sleek and stylish dagger, impressive for both its elegant design and solid stats. Traditionally used for animal sacrifice rituals, this dagger proves equally effective against human foes. With its naturally high critical hit chance, the weapon’s signature perk adds +30 critical hit chance for 8 seconds after every kill. When paired with a strong investment in the critical damage stat, the Mōdraniht Ceremonial Seax becomes a lightning-fast, deadly weapon.

Unfortunately, the Mōdraniht Ceremonial Seax was only obtainable during limited-time in-game festival events, which are no longer available in Valhalla. However, some seasonal weapons occasionally appear in shops, so new players eager to add this blade to their arsenal should keep an eye on traders’ inventories whenever possible.

Blodwulf Shield

Wolf Aligned, Light Shield

This shield was first secured as a prize by the warrior Soma of Grantebridge upon capturing the city from the hostile Earl Wigmund’s forces. It was soon given to Eivor as a gift — and a useful one at that. While it doesn’t appear to be much on the surface, this shield holds the useful perk of igniting Eivor’s weapon in flame following a parry.

This is a mechanic that is fairly simple to pull off, at least against weaker foes, so it can swiftly turn players into a fiery offensive threat. Its solid blocking and stunning abilities allow it to disrupt enemy attacks effectively and often. While shields don’t often make a huge impact, this is a fun and effective one to utilize for swifter, more agile builds and playstyles.

Soldier’s Flail

Flails can be a bit finicky and demand a learning curve compared to many weapons in Valhalla, but the Soldier’s version of this weapon is worth getting acquainted with. By just looting a chest at Chepeham, Eivor can get their hands on this useful flail, which is a great tool for survivalists and speedy, stealthy assassins.

The weapon will bump up speed (+3) simply by staying near full health — specifically at 90%. This is a good weapon to use for crowd control on weaker enemies, or just generally being a pest and disrupting more sluggish targets. It excels offensively, as one might expect, though it also shines when it comes to stunning attackers.

Sarcophagus Shield

Wolf Aligned, Heavy Shield

This shield certainly looks the part, with its sleek, bulky design and ominous skull decor, though it also has the potency to back it up. Aside from amping Eivor’s offensive power, blocking, and stun potential, it also yields the chance to start a fire surrounding them. This is great for crowd control, as well as causing problems for larger foes with damage-over-time abilities.

Players will simply need to execute a parry to ignite these fires. But as long as the attacks of enemies are anticipated, players can create dangerous infernos surrounding them fairly simply. Players will just need to be aware of its rather sluggish speed. It’s handy, given the amount of highly flammable material with the wood structures indoors and outside in the grass. It’s impressive what a powerhouse this weapon is offensively given its moderate weight, and it can also stun targets quite effectively. It’s a great weapon to opt for when looking to finish foes, as targets that have low health can initiate light and heavy finishers more often when using it. This complements its solid critical abilities, making it a deadly scythe that’s likely to finish skirmishes quickly.

Basim’s Sword

Not to be confused with the bonus weapon also called Basim’s Sword, available as a Ubisoft Connect reward, this version is a more traditional one-handed scimitar. With its classic Persian-inspired design, it resembles the swords wielded by the Prince of Persia and is a potent weapon in its own right.

The signature perk of Basim’s Sword is somewhat intricate, offering multiple bonuses that boost attack and speed while also extending the duration of these effects. With some practice, players can maximize these bonuses, making the sword highly effective in combat scenarios.

In Valhalla, Basim’s Sword is naturally obtained during the main story as Layla Hassan relives the memories of Basim Ibn Ishaq. Interestingly, this weapon also appears in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, adding a connection between the two games where Basim appears.

It also contains great stunning potential, encouraging both aggressive and more passive approaches. To obtain it, simply finish the quest Reporting on Snotinghamscire and it will be gifted by the Viking Vili Hemmingson after aiding him in dealing with his father’s death and funeral.

Sagittarius Bow

While Valhalla emphasizes more brawling even when compared to Odyssey, many gamers will want to opt for a stealthier, more strategic offense. This is especially true in the later game and DLCs when foes get tougher and more defensively capable.

This is where the game’s diverse lineup of bows comes in handy. Once used by Roman troops patrolling Hadrian’s Wall, this Hunter bow manages to be both strong and efficient — making it a great option for fending off multiple troops.

Sharpshooters will get even more benefits from it, as it gets faster upon striking enemy weak points. This is nifty as it bumps up one of the bow’s rare blemishes: speed. Players can score this versatile bow by pillaging the loot chest in Multangular Tower, in Jorvik (just south of Eurvicscire).

While this one may not have the flashiness or sheer power as some other top-tier weapons, the Blacksmith’s Hammer makes for a solid, well-rounded hammer fairly early on. Its offensive might and ability to stun can prove useful against weaker targets, and this is enhanced by its ability to knock enemies to the ground when landing heavy criticals.

To get it, players must head to Bodilsburg Garrison and seek out a guard holding a key. Slay him and grab the key, then head upstairs to the building and find a breakable portion of the roof. Fire an arrow at that segment, and Eivor will be in the clear to grab the weapon from the chest up there.

Varin’s Axe

This hand-me-down from Eivor’s slain father Varin makes for a pretty well-rounded weapon. There are certainly better options in terms of raw power, but the speedy, lightweight nature of the axe makes it great in a pinch, and optimal for those who favor a swifter, stealthier style of play. It’s more than sufficient in the early game when players will likely use it.

More aggressive players can also benefit from this axe, as it increases one’s speed after each hit making it a lethal choice when dual-wielding with heavier or long-range weapons. Varin’s Axe can be obtained after freeing your clan in the longhouse of Rygjafylke. It’s a great option to stick with early on.

Bear-Claw

Similar to the previous entry, the beastly Bear-Claw makes for a swift and effective weapon that can also pack a punch. It can be wielded in either hand once the Heavy Dual Wield skill has been unlocked. However, the Bear-Claw can only be unlocked if the player has access to the Season Pass content.

This Bearded Axe is especially useful for those who find themselves a glutton for ration consumption. This is because the weapon will temporarily increase Eivor’s Attack when consuming one. Being as lightweight as it is, the axe can deal a fair amount of damage pretty rapidly.

Fafnir’s Fang

Even as an early-game weapon, Fafnir’s Fang has serious power for players who are willing to upgrade it. As with other spears in the Assassin’s Creed series, they have a longer range than a sword and can take a little time to get used to.

Thankfully, Fafnir’s Fang has some serious speed when it’s dual-wielded with another spear. Fafnir grants an attack boost when surrounded by enemies making it great for taking out hordes of enemies at once in a raid.

Those good at evading enemy attacks will especially want to give this a go since its critical damage will increase when Eivor has full health. This powerhouse of an axe is effective in that can dish out quite a bit of pain fairly rapidly despite being a two-handed weapon. It’s a great choice for those looking to clash with a multitude of enemies during raids — as its power increases when surrounded by more than 3 enemies.

Eivor can truly be a one-Viking-army with this object of destruction, thanks to its ample Attack and Stun numbers, which will allow players to weather hordes of foes more effectively. The axe can be found in a bandit camp to the north of Lincolnshire.

Skadi’s Wrath

An excellent bow for those Viking archers out there is this Light Bow, known as Skadi’s Wrath. It’s especially solid for those who value critical hits, as wielding this bow increases critical chance by +15 for ten seconds when the weak point of a foe is struck. Its Stun, Attack, and Critical numbers are more than respectable as well.

This bow can be obtained in the church of Ledecestrescire. Players will need to climb the ladder, destroy the wooden wall, and head down the cellar. The path will eventually lead to a Wealth Chest that contains the bow.

Yngling Seax

For players who prefer rapid, swift attacks, the Yngling Seax is a powerful dagger well-suited for aggressive playstyles. It’s a short-range weapon, but it’s great for players who like to charge into a crowd of enemies taking on multiple enemies at once.

The Yngling Seax is deadly in the hands of players who have perfected their dodges and unlocked the Brush With Death Skill. Additionally, thanks to the dagger’s perk that sees a damage increase after a successful dodge, their melee attacks will be near unstoppable.

This sleek two-handed axe can be a force of nature, thanks in part to its nifty perk that gives it a chance to set enemies ablaze with a critical hit. And as many have found out the hard way, being a human torch in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is not ideal.

What’s great about this weapon is that it’s pretty powerful considering how early on it can be obtained in the game. And of course, upgrades can help keep this thing effective throughout. Specifically, the axe can be found in the south portion of Mercia during the quest, “Tilting the Balance.” There will be a chest in King Burgred’s hideout that holds the item.

Players who’ve felt the desire to channel their inner Witch King Lord of the Rings-style should opt for this strong, satisfying flail. The weapon certainly lives up to its intimidating name, with some solid Attack and Stun stats.

It’s a great option for those who like to rumble up close and personal with multiple foes. Not only can it deal loads of damage, but its nimble nature also makes it fairly easy to dodge and evade enemies. At the same time, Eivor’s targets will have a hard time dodging incoming attacks. On top of this, Heavy finisher hits grant the chance to drop a devastating Fire Bomb. This deadly weapon can be found in a loot chest in King’s Bury.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s most robust, ambitious DLC pack has brought with it a slew of lush new locales as well as awesome new weapons. One such example is this ominously named ‘Thorgrim’s Dying Breath,’ a unique weapon that boasts some mighty offensive potential early in the campaign.

Players can simply overpower targets with this beast, especially with its perk of knocking enemies flat on the ground when landing heavy criticals. The weapon can be secured in a chest in Gapius; a dilapidated group of buildings in a swamp southeast of the Midalstifla dam. There will be a river just to the east.
