Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors

An Arcade Tournament Fighter Game For Monster Fans

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors

The Night Warriors is the first installment of the Darkstalkers game series. When the alien Pyron arrives to devour Earth, it falls on ten iconic monsters to defend its inhabitants. As a fighting game, the player must choose a character and fight the remaining nine before facing two bosses. Each character is based on a classic horror figure, from zombie to Sasquatch to vampire.

Part human, part werewolf, Jon Talbain has a history of internal conflict, but he was able to control his form via a devotion to the strict regime of martial arts. Despite his weakness to silver weapons, he is an otherwise ferocious fighter — Jon Talbain’s cartoony yet striking art design establishes him as a worthy playable werewolf in gaming.

Castlevania: Legacy Of Darkness

The Forgotten Prequel Features The Series’ Only Werewolf Hero

A beloved concept is having werewolves and vampires face off and even the Castlevania series played into that with Castlevania: Legacy Of Darkness. It is a prequel to the reboot of Castlevania for the Nintendo 64, focusing on a werewolf named Cornell trying to save his sister from being used to resurrect Dracula.

Castlevania: Legacy Of Darkness remains the only game in the series to feature a werewolf protagonist. It introduced a new combat style, with Cornell’s human form featuring long-range attacks. In contrast, his werewolf form facilitates a more hack-and-slash approach, all while maintaining the traditional Castlevania gameplay.

The Sims 4

Live A Silly Digital Life As A Werewolf

With the aptly titled Werewolves DLC expansion to The Sims 4, the player can have their pre-existing character meet a werewolf and get bitten, beginning the werewolf cycle. However, the easiest method would be to create a new Sim already afflicted with the werewolf curse, allowing them to transform with a button.

It may not be violent or gruesome, but the Sims 4 version of werewolves provides many humorous opportunities for players to enjoy the life of a Sim. The customization options for a werewolf are arguably even better than they were for the Supernatural DLC for the previous game.

Altered Beast (2005)

Become A Werewolf And Many Other Monsters In This Bloody Reboot

Beat ‘Em Up

Action

Horror

Systems

Released

January 27, 2005

Altered Beast is a reboot of the classic Sega beat ‘em up title, which brought the game to the modern-day in a darker and grittier style with amplified gore. The main protagonist, Luke Custer, is a genetically altered being with the ability to transform into multiple monsters, such as a merman, minotaur, dragon, and, most importantly, a werewolf.

Ditching the mystical elements in favor of sci-fi elements resulted in Altered Beast being judged harshly in 2005. However, years later, more appreciation has been given to the game for still providing an action-packed slasher game. The different monsters provide different gory ways of disposing of enemies, which many can enjoy in the same vein as Mortal Kombat fatalities.

Bethesda Made The Werewolf Curse Better Than Ever

Released

November 11, 2011

Developer(s)

Bethesda Game Studios

Being cursed to become a werewolf or a vampire had existed in previous games, but The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim did it better than the others. Being afflicted with a werewolf curse in previous Elder Scrolls games led to a lot of drawbacks, which led to it being questionable if the curse was even worth it.

In Skyrim, the curse comes with all the benefits and none of the weaknesses. Once per in-game day, the Dragonborn can transform into a werewolf for enhanced strength, speed, durability, and more. With the freedom that Skyrim provides the player, they can be as heroic or as villainous as they wish with the werewolf form.

While it may not provide a full werewolf experience, it offers a brief, regular chance to embrace the iconic transformation and enjoy more animalistic movement.

The player’s choices throughout the game will impact the ending.

At the game’s beginning, the player can choose the race and class of their character. One of the Druid class’s starting abilities is Spiritshift, which allows them to assume the form of an animal. Spriritshift Wolf gives players the chance to transform into a wolf that has remarkable speed and attacks that knock their enemies prone. While combat isn’t necessary to gain experience, being able to turn into a killer beast will make it tempting.
