What Does 'Venerate a Maraketh Shrine' Mean in PoE 2

One of the main difficulties players will face during a playthrough of Path of Exile 2 is the, at times, confusing terminology. While the developers, Grinding Gear Games, do an adequate job of incorporating in-game tooltips to explain most of the mechanics, there are some instances where this is not the case.

Particularly egregious are the explanations of some of the Boons and Afflictions in the Trial of the Sekhemas, one of the two Trials of Ascendancy everyone has to play through in order to create an endgame character. Maraketh Shrines get mentioned in some Boons, but what they are, and where to find them is not explained at all. Here’s the breakdown.

Players shouldn’t be surprised to spend quite a bit of time with the following bosses in Path of Exile 2.

What Does ‘Venerate a Maraketh Shrine’ Mean in PoE 2

Maraketh Shrines are the water pools or fountains where you have to pay 5 Sacred Water (Trial of Sekhemas currency) to restore your honor at the end of a room. Venerating a Maraketh Shrine means paying the 5 Sacred Water price to get the reward. There are six types of rooms in total that are considered Maraketh Shrines in the Trial of the Sekhemas. They are:

Honour Halani

Awards a Shrine to restore Honour and gain Sacred Water

Honour Ahkeli

Awards a Shrine that greatly restores Honour and burdens you with an Affliction

Honour Orbala

Awards a Shrine that restores Honour and grants you a Boon

Honour Galai

Awards a Shrine that bestows the fickle Blessings of the Wind

Honour Tabana

Awards a Shrine to restore Honour

Pledge to Kochai

Awards a Pledge which can be accepted to change the Trial’s Parameters

The Pledge To Kochai Room does not restore honor by default (though it can) but demands 5 Sacred Water to be activated. This is also considered venerating a Maraketh Shrine, and doing so activates the related boons.

Additionally, the Merchant, Balbala, also requires Sacred Water as payment for her services, but doing so doesn’t count as venerating a Maraketh Shrine.

All Boons With ‘Venerate a Maraketh Shrine’ Requirement

There are only two boons, one major and one minor, that require the player to ‘venerate a Maraketh Shrine.’

Fountain of Youth

Minor Boon

Restore X of your Honor when you venerate a Maraketh Shrine.

Holy Water

Major Boon

Gain a random Minor Boon when you venerate a Maraketh Shrine.
