Updated January 26, 2025 By Matthew Mckeown: Whilst it may not seem like it, the anime VR game market is still there and it’s doing well. Though it may seem like a fairly niche market, there’s a lot of variety once you start digging around in the clutter.
From restaurant management games, to the usual big amphitheater sing-alongs that you would expect, to some very interesting visual novels, there’s fun stuff in there if you know where to look. For those that are struggling to find something worthwhile, here’s an updated look at the best anime vr games out now.
Hop Step Sing!
A Musical Anime Adventure
Now before we go further it’s worth prefixing this with the information that there’s a lot of Hop Step Sing games and they all have their own experience. But in general, the games from Kodansha, Polygon Pictures and Lantis share one thing in common, a musical themed experience.
After slipping on a headset, you’ll find yourself in the front row at an idol concert from Japan’s biggest and newest pop group. This trio will serenade you with hit songs whilst also taking the audience on a fun VR adventure that requires ample amounts of participation. A fun and lighthearted romp for a few hours, Hop Step Sing is an energetic evening indoors.
Project RTD: Random Tower Defense VR
Blocking The Hordes With Magical Girls
A tower defense game with a fun difference, Project RTD from Jamong is pretty simple and hits a satisfying spot in its tower management mechanics. Instead of the usual turrets or fantasy creatures being plopped down, here you use a series of heroic anime girls.
Each one has their own unique buffs, attacks and skills that will keep the hordes at bay and you’ll have to physically lean around your vertical towerscape to find the right spot for them. Fights are fast and frantic at times, plus with 30 towers and three factions to mess around with, you’ve got plenty of features to keep you occupied for hours on end.
Innocent Forest: The Bird Of Light
A Deep Dive Virtual Novel
A visual novel that fully immerses you in another world, Innocent Forest: The Bird of Light from My Dearest Inc is incredibly easy to lose yourself in. With a stellar voice cast, animated scenes that play out around you and a gorgeous art design, you’ll have a hard time putting this story down.
Speaking of, the tale follows Luclei. A young girl that lives in the forest of lost memories, a place where one painful memory is taken from you whenever you visit. These thoughts take the form of birds in cages and it’s through these creatures that you go on your journey. A heart-wrenching tale at times, Innocent Forest will hit you hard when you least expect it and it’s worth checking out.
Smashing The Battle: VR
A Brilliant Brawler
According to Studio HG, it’s the year 2085 and after a massive multiplex construction area succumbs to a hacking event, all hell breaks loose. The machines have turned on their masters, anarchy is everywhere and it’s up to you to save the day and stop the berserk bots.
You play as one of two unique heroes that you watch in VR from a distance, and it’s for the right reasons. The screen can fill with robots, and with how huge your combo attacks can get, being able to see it all at once from high up makes sense. There’s suit unlocks to grab, to unique play styles to get to grips with and a fun story to blow through.
Guard Fortress VR
Flinging Minions At Your Mates
A cartoony and chaotic multiplayer virtual reality game, Guard Fortress VR pits you as the commander of a castle against an opponent on the other side. There’s multiple fantasy races and creatures to choose from and you’ll have to send forth your army by literally throwing them comically off your walls.
The winner is the last castle standing and to give yourself an edge there are special skills and spells that can be activated with a hand flourish or gesture at will. The range from single target strikes to battlefield spanning waves of elemental attacks that decimate anyone within range. It’s a simple yet fun anime inspired VR game that’s good on your own but even better with some friends.
Puppy Chef Academy
Learn Real Recipies
An adorable anime VR game available on Itch.io, Puppy Chef Academy puts you through your paces as a student chef learning all the ins and outs of working in a kitchen. You’ll be doing everything from prepping ingredients to mixing dishes and more as you work your way up through the Academy.
There’s over twelve distinct recipes from across the world that can be replicated in real life if you want to show off your new culinary skills. It’s a simple premise that actually teaches you how to even the most basic of things, so it’s perfect if you’ve always wanted to learn some new skills.
Void Rifter XR
Highly Customizable Mecha Combat
A VR Mecha game with a lot of depth, Void Rifter XR is a free game on Itch.io that you need to check out. High speed action awaits in the arena against waves of bots or if you’re brave, other players in dynamic mech combat.

Plus, with more cosmetics locked away behind progression, you’ve got no excuse to not keep playing. A solid VR action game that doesn’t cost a cent, Void Rifter XR comes heavily recommended.
COGEN: Swords Flourish
Stylish Anime Sword Slashes Aplenty
If you’ve ever watched a sword fight in an anime and thought, I could do that, then grab COGEN: Swords Flourish on Itch.io. A game all about one thing, swinging extremely anime swords, it’s very odd but surprisingly satisfying to go hog wild with some of these weapons.
There’s everything from your standard katana, hand thrown projectiles and big angular lumps of colorful metal that pass for swords that you can swing around. Plus, there’s online multiplayer so you can take serious swing at your friends, or have your own over the top anime sword fight showdown.
Whilst you can just go in swinging wildly, there are people online that know how to, and will, parry you. So maybe practice a bit first.
Ultraclash V
Become The Post-Apocalyptic Anime Protagonist
Step into the shoes of the protagonist in your own anime with Ultraclash V. Available fairly cheap on Itch.io, Ultraclash is all about one thing, excessive violence with your fists. The itch equivalent of an Early Access game, Ultraclash lets you brutally batter foes with nothing but your hands.
Send goons rocketing skyward or pirouetting through the air with a well timed uppercut and unlock new weapons and gadgets to help you tear through those hordes with your meaty mitts. Plus the developers have said their looking to bring in a story campaign to crawl through, a few boss fights along the way to keep things interesting and multiplayer eventually, so it’s at least one to try out and then keep an eye on.
According to the devs, picking up the game also grants access to their Discord server where they regularly interact with their growing community.
Reborn VR
Chaotic Anime Chat Room
A creative and often chaotic mix of videogame and chat room, Reborn VR from Reborn Inc. is reminiscent of VR Chat, but with a higher focus on gaming together whilst socializing. There’s plenty to do and all you need is a couple of friends, a PC, and a VR headset to join in.
There’s a unique social media system baked into the game that lets you meet, talk, and socialize with all sorts of new folks with their very own custom anime avatars. To keep you occupied, there are plenty of group games and events like concerts, solo jaunts, and a crafting system that will let you add and build to your own little avatar world. If you’re looking for something more social then Reborn VR is worth checking out.
If this piqued your curiosity, Reborn VR is free to play and there’s a fairly active Discord Community.
DYSCHRONIA: Chronos Alternate
Rewriting The Future
An apparent impossible murder case has been laid at your feet in the far-flung future and it’s up to you to get to the bottom of this time-twisting tale from Izanagi Games and MyDearest Inc. Travel across an advanced and sprawling cityscape in virtual reality as Special Supervisor Hal Scion, a Detective with the special ability to rewrite past events.
This is vitally important as the city is set to be destroyed in seven days so time, whilst manipulatable, is not on your side. Gameplay involves using time manipulation, your own observation skills, and an augmented reality that’s filled with shoals of digital fish. Fiendish puzzles, tricky crime scenes, and surprisingly engaging stealth sections await you, so go save the city.
Don’t worry about the seven-day deadline, the game itself is a slow burn at times so it’s mainly plot fluff.
Tokyo Chronos
Be The Star Of Your Own Show
Another surprisingly great VR anime game from MyDearest Inc. Tokyo Chronos puts you in downtown Shibuya in Tokyo but the city isn’t as busy as it should be. In fact there are only eight people there and you’re one of them. So it’s up to you, Kyosuke Sakurai, and the others to figure out why you’re there, where everyone’s gone, and more concerning, what’s causing this to happen.
It’s a mystery set in a visual novel style that’s a nice and long slow burn of a game with plenty of storytelling and decision-making moments that will twist the story further as it goes along. The characters are all fairly distinct, the voice acting is enjoyable and it’s quite easy to get immersed into the story like a character in an anime episode.
It’s recommended to play this game sitting down as there’s a lot of dialogue scenes that involve the characters just standing around. So spare your legs some pain and grab a chair.
Yuki Space Ranger
Blisteringly Fast Bullet Hell
A super stylish and slick bullet hell shooter from Arvore, Yuki Space Ranger is pretty simple but it’s very satisfying. It’s a fast-paced arcade game that puts Yuki on one arm and her helpful drone on the other, and all you have to do is wave her around and blast away.

A fun selling point of Yuki Space Ranger is that you can play it fully in VR or in AR with the layout of the rooms in your home. There are a couple of challenging modes to try out, power-ups to collect, and a fun and enjoyable story at the core of the game to keep you up and moving those arms until the end. It’s pretty low stakes with plenty of fun difficulty spikes and it comes recommended for owners of the Meta Quest.
Sadly Yuki Space Ranger is a Meta Quest exclusive.
Attack On Quest
As Close As We’re Going To Get For Now
We’ve been promised an Attack On Titan VR game for years by now and unfortunately, the official version has been, and continues to be, continually delayed. But there is a solution in the form of a bit barebones but surprisingly enjoyable fan-made Attack On Titan VR game called Attack On Quest.
It’s a free-to-play game that’s been around for a few years, but it’s been regularly updated to include new content. Such as levels based on locations from the anime and manga, new bosses like the Warhammer, multiplayer for up to eight people, and a fun achievement and cosmetics system. If you need your Titan slaying fix, then Attack On Quest comes highly recommended.
You can’t find Attack On Quest on any of the big storefronts, but you can get to it by clicking here.
Lofi Katana
Slice Those Beats With Folded Steel
Familiar in style to Beat Sabre, Lofi Katana is a brilliant Eastern rendition of the cult-classic rhythm game with its own unique style. In one hand you have a katana, the other a lovely hand fan. With the two you slice and swat to the rhythm as you shuffle, shimmy, and shake to the beat.
There’s tons of great tracks to pick and you can even load up your own custom tunes to add that personal musical touch. There are a number of difficulty levels to suit different styles and alternate modes of play such as Only Fans and Only Katanas for that added challenge.
Lofi Katana is highly recommended if you’re looking for a simple VR rhythm game with a lot of anime flavor.
Kizuna AI – Touch The Beat!
Dance Like Nobodies Watching
If you’re looking for a unique anime VR Rhythm game then check out Kizuna AI: Touch The Beat. This odd-sounding game features Kizuna AI, for those not familiar this is a popular AI Ambassador for the Japanese Board of Tourism, and she has her own game.
Wave around the iconic glow sticks as you take part in your own Holo Live-esque concert that features over 15 songs performed by Kizuna AI herself. Plus, if you want a break from all the dancing there’s a special View Mode that lets you hang out with Kizuna whilst enjoying the tracks.
I Am Sakuya VR
A Little Basic, But Very Satisfying
A highly energetic and at times very cute anime VR first-person shooter, I Am Sakuya VR is bizarre yet satisfyingly violent to play. Uncover the mysterious origins of Sakuya Izayoi whilst infiltrating a strange macabre Mansion.
Within this abhorrent abode lies the Scarlet Vampires, a monstrous group that needs to be put down for good. Gameplay is surprisingly intense at times, there’s plenty of big boss battles to test your skills and an abundant supply of 3D-modeled weaponry to satiate that hunger for firepower. You’ve also got powerful abilities at your disposal and a long road ahead of you, so start shooting.
By far the most unique and fun-to-use weapon in the game is the quad-barrelled shotgun.
Food Girls – Bubbles’ Drink Stand

Thank You For Sharing Your World
Short, Sweet And Soulful
An artsy and heart-string-pulling VR experience from Kodansha, Thank You For Sharing Your World takes a delicate topic and puts a genuinely wholesome and gorgeous twist on it. This short experience attempts to portray what the world is like for those who are blind.
You play as Takashi, a young boy who lost his sight in grade school and recreates the world around him using his imagination. However, it takes a more abstract and stylistic approach as Takashis vivid imagination twists and reimagines ordinary things like encounters with dogs, trains, and more. It’s short, sweet, and well worth experiencing at least once.
The game’s direction was guided by Yu Sakudo, a Japanese screenwriter who worked on a number of films, so enjoy a well-written and gorgeous experience.
