This puts it ahead of the PlayStation 5 announcement video, which amassed a similar number of likes but was hovering around 18.14 million views three days following its mid-June 2020 premiere. As of early 2025, Sony’s PS5 reveal has 44 million views and 1.6 million likes on the Google-owned video platform. The Switch 2 trailer is hence seemingly on course to at the very least surpass the PS5 announcement’s overall number of YouTube likes in the foreseeable future.

Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Is Still Tracking Behind the Original Switch Trailer

While the early YouTube momentum of the Switch 2 announcement is ahead of Sony’s PS5 reveal, it’s still behind Nintendo’s October 2016 video offering the first look at the original Switch. That particular trailer amassed 19.5 million views within just two days of going live, although it was eventually delisted from the platform, VGC reports.

The Japanese gaming giant is understood to be keenly aware of this consumer interest, with a recent analyst report estimating that the company plans to offer approximately 20 million Switch 2 units in the console’s first year on the market. That’s a 25% increase compared to the 2017 device, which suffered from severe shortages early on, and then again once the global pandemic happened in 2020.

Nintendo has scheduled pop-up preview events that will offer fans around the world hands-on time with the new console in April, May, and early June 2025. Before any of them take place, the company will host a Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct on April 2. The spring broadcast is expected to yield new details about the device, like its release date, price, and launch game lineup.
