PlayStation has revealed that Astro Bot will receive at least one new speedrunning level in the future. Astro Bot has already given fans some free content following its launch, but it appears more is on the way.

The launch of Astro Bot in 2024 was a massive success for developer Team Asobi. The game received widespread acclaim from critics and fans, and this positive reception translated into numerous sales and awards. Notably, Astro Bot won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, beating out other popular titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Besides the engaging main adventure, Team Asobi has looked to keep players coming back through post-launch content, including a collection of speedrunning levels and a winter-themed DLC.

While Astro Bot may have been a massive success for the studio, the robot’s next mainline adventure might struggle to replicate the same magic.

Fortunately for fans, more content could be coming to Astro Bot soon. During a recent PlayStation Tournaments XP event, a new speedrunning level for the game was featured in the finals. As seen in a video shared on Twitter by Genki, the level has the character use the Time Stopper ability to freeze enemies to help get to the goal in the fastest time possible. In addition, one section utilizes a flower to gain some extra elevation.

Unfortunately, there is no word on when this speedrunning level could be added to the game. In addition, it is unclear whether this could be part of a larger DLC collection that is planned to be introduced. It is worth pointing out that a recent Astro Bot leak teased the potential addition of more cameo bots. Specifically, the leak featured what looked like Heihachi from the Tekken games, suggesting a crossover with the fighting franchise could happen.

Despite not knowing the extent of Team Asobi’s plans for Astro Bot in 2025, this is still big news. While the game already has numerous cameo bots, there are more IPs the developer can draw on for additional references. In addition, the game had some inventive abilities, so seeing new speedrunning levels making use of these is a good thing.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Astro Bot. Thanks to the popularity of the original PS5 pack-in game Astro’s Playroom and now 2024’s Astro Bot, the titular character has become one of PlayStation’s biggest mascots. Regardless of how much more DLC for the latest game releases, the success of the series so far likely means more adventures featuring Astro Bot are on the Horizon.
