Dynasty Warriors: Origins players will be forced to choose between one of three different factions, each of which has two different endings. To unlock every faction’s true ending, players will need to alter the fate of certain officers, which will in turn have an impact on how each storyline plays out.
The true ending for Wei is arguably the hardest one to unlock, as Dynasty Warriors: Origins players will need to complete a somewhat complicated set of objectives in a relatively short amount of time. However, doing so will allow them to save two of Cao Cao’s most loyal servants and help turn the tide at the Battle of Chibi.
How to Unlock the True Ending for Wei in Dynasty Warriors: Origins (Cao Cao Secret Ending)
Unlocking the true ending for Wei will require players to save Dian Wei and Guo Jia. Doing so will lead to the latter sniffing out Huang Gai’s treachery at the Battle of Chibi, allowing Cao Cao to emerge from battle with minimal losses to his army and fleet. As mentioned above, this is arguably the most difficult of the three true endings to unlock, so players may want to consider playing on Dynasty Warriors: Origins‘ Historian difficulty setting to make life a little easier.
How to Save Dian Wei during Escape From Wan Castle (Chapter 4)
The first step toward unlocking the true ending for Wei is to save Dian Wei during the Escape From Wan Castle in Chapter 4. To do this, they should start out by capturing the enemy base in the top right-hand corner of the map, being sure to take out any enemy officers they run into along the way. After that, they should deal with the reinforcements and then protect the central base from Kuai Yue and the two officers that are accompanying him.
Next, players should capture the base in the top left-hand corner of the map, which will lead to ladders being placed along the castle’s eastern wall. They should climb one of these ladders and quickly take out the three officers in the central courtyard. After doing so, they can make their way to Huche’er in the bottom right corner of the castle grounds. Assuming they reach him fast enough, he’ll ask if they’re there to save Cao Cao’s bodyguard, after which players should beat Huche’er and his men as quickly as possible.
Doing all of this in under eight minutes will lead to Dian Wei mentioning that the enemy’s numbers are thinning and a Fate Altered message appearing on screen. If this is the case, players should complete the mission as normal, otherwise, they’ll need to restart. The key here is to complete each of the aforementioned steps as quickly as possible, so it’s a good idea to choose single-target Battle Arts for taking down enemy officers and save Musou attacks for when they’re most needed.
How to Save Guo Jia at the Battle of Mt. Bailang (Chapter 5)
Guo Jia doesn’t actually die at the Battle of Mt. Bailang, although he does end up succumbing to an illness contracted due to the length of the battle and the harsh weather conditions that he and his men are forced to endure. As such, the key to saving Guo Jia is to complete the first part of the Battle of Mt. Bailang as quickly as possible. More specifically, players will need to defeat Bailuan in under four minutes.
Things are made all the more difficult by the fact that players will need to take a very specific route to Bailuan to avoid alerting Yuan Xi’s force to their presence. To begin with, they should capture the nearest base and then move on to the one to the southwest. From here, they’ll need to head west, using their horse to jump through the gaps in the fencing rather than following the looping path around.
As soon as an enemy base falls, players should summon their horse and begin cheering it up while the gates are being opened, as this will increase the amount of time that they can spend dashing.
After clearing the first three bases, players should use the horse to dash through the three squadrons of soldiers and then have Ziluan’s troops break down the gate to the fourth base. It’s important that players do this as quickly as possible, as delaying will increase the chances of one of the soldiers they just passed disrupting the gate opening, which can end up costing a fairly significant chunk of time. Once the gate is open, players should defeat the three officers to capture the fourth base and then exit via the western gate.
As they dash up the resulting path on their horse, Bailuan will appear in front of them, and they’ll need to defeat the Guardian of Peace as quickly as possible. If they’re fast enough, Bailuan will ask if Ziluan really wants to pursue the bloodstained path and the Fate Altered message will appear on the screen once more. After that, players should complete the rest of the stage as normal. There’s no time limit as such, although it’s a good idea to initiate the ambush and charge as quickly as possible to prevent Cao Cao from being overwhelmed.
If players arrive at the fourth enemy base before Zhang He has engaged Yuan Xi, there’s a chance that the latter will be alerted to their presence, in which case, they’ll need to restart.
How to Stop Huang Gai’s Treachery at the Battle of Chibi (Chapter 5)
The last step for unlocking the true ending for Cao Cao requires players to stop Huang Gai’s betrayal at the Battle of Chibi. To do this, they’ll first need to track down Zhuge Liang and force him to retreat from the battle. They can either wait until he makes his way to the prayer altar in the bottom left-hand corner of the map or apprehend him in his starting location, which is on the south bank of the river just west of the main enemy stronghold. Those having trouble finding him can pause the game and check the battle map for his exact location.
Once Zhuge Liang has been taken care of, Guo Jia will deduct that there’s a traitor amidst the Wei forces and suggest that players keep an eye out when the wind changes direction. When he does, they should travel to the rear of Cao Cao’s main ship and wait near the yellow flag for Huang Gai to show up. They’ll then need to beat Huang Gai before he has a chance to burn the fleet, which can actually be a lot easier said than done, as he has a very strong defense and can still light the fire even after players have begun fighting him.
Players may need to leave the area marked on the map for Huang Gai to show up. If this is the case, they should move toward the front of Cao Cao’s main ship and keep an eye on Huang Gai’s blue dot on their mini-map. When it starts to get near the yellow flag, they should rush back over and confront him as soon as possible.
Shortly after Huang Gai has been defeated, the Fate Altered message will appear on the screen one final time, after which, players should complete the rest of the battle as usual. This time, however, they won’t need to bother with the Battle of Huarong Path afterward, as the true ending for Wei will play out as soon as the Battle of Chibi comes to an end if Cao Cao’s fleet doesn’t burn. Sadly, it’s not all that different from the default ending, although completionists probably won’t be all that bothered by this.
Players will unlock the “The True Path to Power” Trophy / Achievement if they complete the Wei story with the true ending.
