In Palworld, sooner or later you’ll have to make weapons to fight against stronger Pals. While there are a lot of high-quality weapons in the game, you have to start with lower-quality weapons and gradually make your way up the ladder. In the early game, the makeshift weapons are going to be your friend.

These weapons are good enough to improve your attack power drastically, and you’ll need these if you intend to conquer the towers. Crafting makeshift weapons for the first time can be a challenge, but this guide will help you get up to speed in no time.
How To Craft All Makeshift Weapons
Makeshift weapons have similar crafting requirements but are unlocked at different levels in the Technology menu. All makeshift weapons can be crafted at a Weapon Workbench, and require the following items:

How To Obtain |
Ingot |
Ingot can be made from ore using any furnace. In the early game, you’ll need a pickaxe to mine those large brown chunks of rocks scattered all over the map to collect ore. After hitting level 15, you can set up an Ore Mining Site and assign Pals with the Mining skill to it, and they’ll begin gathering ore for you. |
High Quality Pal Oil |
High Quality Pal Oil can be obtained by catching or defeating certain Pals, such as Dumud, Digtoise, or Relaxaurus. Dumud or Digtoise can be easily found near the Anubis Alpha Pal location in the desert region. |
Fiber |
Fiber can be easily collected alongside wood from trees. You’ll need an axe to get fiber and wood from trees, but if you don’t have an axe, you can attack the trees with a weapon or a Pal skill to make them drop wood and fiber. |
While all makeshift weapons need these items to be crafted, the required quantity is different. Furthermore, you’ll need Coarse Ammo to pair with all of these weapons.
Coarse Ammo can be dropped by Syndicate Thugs, or you can craft it yourself at a Weapon Workbench using 2x Ingot and 1x Gunpowder.
You’ll need a Weapon Workbench to craft all these makeshift weapons and their ammo. The Weapon Workbench is unlocked at level 20 in the Technology menu for three Technology Points and requires these items to be built: 15x Ingot, 50x Wood, and 10x Nail.
Gunpowder is unlocked at level 21 in the Technology tab with two Technology Points and can be crafted with Sulfur and Charcoal at a High Quality Workbench.
Sulfur deposits can be found in the desert region near the Anubis Alpha Pal’s location. These deposits appear as large yellow chunks. Meanwhile, charcoal can be obtained from wood in any furnace.

Makeshift Handgun
The Makeshift Handgun is a great early-game weapon due to its raw firepower. You can fire up to six shots before needing to reload. It doesn’t have much range, but still, it can be an effective weapon from close to mid-range.
The Makeshift Handgun is a weapon that you’d want to keep in your inventory until you get a better handgun. This weapon can easily beat the Makeshift SMG in terms of utility and usefulness.
Makeshift SMG
The Makeshift SMG might be your first weapon in the game with a decent rate of fire. While this weapon can easily melt Pals up close with its damage, you’d not want to use it too often if you’re short on resources because this weapon will eat all your ammo in no time.
Despite a good rate of fire, this weapon’s accuracy during a spray is quite weak, and it’s best to switch to the Makeshift Assault Rifle or a better weapon, as soon as you get it.
Makeshift Shotgun
The Makeshift Shotgun is a decent weapon at point-blank range as it can deal a ton of damage, but you have to reload it after firing every single shot. Despite that, it might be worth keeping it in your inventory for the times when you need to dish out significant damage to an enemy up close before switching to other weapons.
Even though you have to reload it after firing every shot, the damage this weapon deals is significant enough to make you want to keep it equipped.
Makeshift Assault Rifle
The Makeshift Assault Rifle is an excellent weapon that features a decent rate of fire, alongside raw firepower. You can fire long sprays with much better accuracy compared to the Makeshift SMG, and you don’t have to worry too much about overusing ammo because each magazine contains only 15 bullets.
The Makeshift Assault Rifle is worth keeping until you encounter a better assault weapon, and will likely be the MVP of any boss battles or towers you encounter in the early game.
