Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Creative Director Daniel Vavra has issued a statement on the game’s reported inclusion of LGBT scenes. The move saw him dismiss the surrounding controversy in a no-nonsense manner and double down on his creative vision for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
The first Kingdom Come: Deliverance game has incurred some criticism for its lack of diversity. Vavra pushed back against this claim during a Reboot Develop appearance in 2018, saying that the open-world RPG aimed to be a historically accurate representation of 15th-century Bohemia. The industry veteran also insisted that the game was free of “propaganda” because it was written by seven people holding diverse political views. Six years later, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was officially revealed alongside a promise that it will feature a “wide range of ethnicities.”

The sequel’s inclusivity also extends to some LGBT scenes, which will reportedly get Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 banned in Saudi Arabia. In a January 17 statement, Vavra reflected on this controversy, noting that Warhorse has somehow once again found itself at the center of a “bizarre culture war.” This time, however, the criticism comes “from the opposite side than usual;” instead of being criticized for a lack of diversity, some social media users are now attacking the developer for making its next game more inclusive.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Won’t Sacrifice Authenticity, Vavra Says
“The game is exactly what I wanted it to be,” Vavra’s statement begins, adding that no one attempted to influence him in any shape or form—and wouldn’t have succeeded even if they had. The creative director continues by saying that every Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 character has a “clear reason to be where they are.” At the same time, Warhorse didn’t stop striving for authenticity while developing the game, with Vavra insisting that the upcoming open-world RPG will still deliver a believable depiction of life in medieval Bohemia while simultaneously telling a compelling story.
The creative director also noted that Warhorse’s next game is of the role-playing variety, so the player will be the one who’s ultimately responsible for the consequences of their actions, which are meant to match “the morals and social norms” of 15th-century Bohemia. Vavra concluded by saying that he won’t go into any more details on the matter for not wanting to spoil the game’s plot, while adding that he “strongly” believes anyone who plays Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will agree with him.
