We all love a good demo. Nothing beats being able to try a videogame for free before you buy it, and the new The First Berserker: Khazan Steam demo is no exception. Coated in blood and dripping with hardcore action, Khazan is poised to be one of the best souslike hack-and-slash games of 2025. It’s fast, frenetic, and the demo is already going down a treat ahead of the imminent launch.
The First Berserker: Khazan casts you as the titular Khazan. A general accused of treason and thus banished, Khazan is coming back for vengeance. Everybody and everything wants Khazan dead, so it’s up to you to take control and keep him alive. The First Berserker is part RPG, part soulslike game, and part hardcore action – so if you love cleaving fantasy creatures and people to ribbons, it’s worth a try.
At its core, The First Berserker: Khazan is about you pushing through some truly hardcore boss fights. Just like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, you need to hone both your own ability and the array of skills and weapons at your disposal. I’m talking greatswords, axes, spears, and plenty more unique offensive tools. You can even dual-wield a selection of weapons, which is one of my favorite ways to become a powerhouse in FromSoftware games.
The First Berserker: Khazan’s demo contains quite a bit to get stuck into. You’ve got access to the first two missions of the game, and can adjust your difficulty settings after you’re done with the first. In a move that’s sure to delight everyone who loves a good demo, all of your progress will also carry over to the full game so you don’t need to play the first two missions again.
This is all going down a treat with players too, as the initial reception to the demo is a strong one. With almost 1,200 Steam user reviews, The First Berserker: Khazan’s demo has a ‘very positive’ 89% rating. The demo has also peaked at 4,439 players on Steam already, making it one of the more popular demos alongside the likes of Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
