The one thing that makes online gaming hard is ownership. Convincing all of your friends to buy the latest craze is difficult when there are so many free-to-play games out there, but developers have been working around that limitation for some time. This is where Last Train Outta’ Wormtown comes in. A multiplayer game with up to 16-player lobbies, only the host needs to have bought the game for everyone else to play. Best of all, the game just pulled into the Steam 1.0 station, so it’s better than ever.

Last Train Outta’ Wormtown is an asymmetrical multiplayer game with a twist. Instead of playing as Dead by Daylight’s killers and survivors, or Left 4 Dead’s zombies and humans, you and your friends are cowboys and sandworms. When playing as the cowboys, it’s your job to complete objectives and escape Wormtown alive. You can run, jump, and use an array of tools – just try not to stay on the ground.

The worm is where things get interesting. If you choose to play as the giant invertebrate you can burrow underground for a big boost to your speed, and even have your own special abilities to come after the cowboys. There’s just one problem: worms can only see cowboys when they’re touching the ground.

This has already become quite the winning formula for developer Get(Color) Games. Ahead of the Steam 1.0 launch, the game already had a mighty impressive 96% positive rating on Valve’s platform from over 1,100 reviews.

If you want to dive into Last Train Outta’ Wormtown, you’ll be glad to hear that only one player needs to purchase the game for a group to play. The Friend’s Pass system means only the host needs to own the game while everyone else can join for free, with lobbies ranging up to 16 players.

Get(Color) Games has added a lot to Last Train Outta’ Wormtown with the launch of 1.0, so new and old players alike have a reason to give it a go. There’s the new Aquarium map theme, a Slingshot kit that increases throw power by 50%, and even some new cosmetics. When your game is 66% of the way to sundown five chests will fall from the sky, so you’ll want to watch out for them and check what’s inside.

You can also find three new large rock structures in your games, which are great to zipline from or store cactus fruit/kit/items on for safe keeping, according to Get(Color) Games. New platforms have also been added to the West side of the map behind the train, giving anyone escaping the worm even more opportunities to get out.

You can play Last Train Outta’ Wormtown 1.0 right now on Steam, with just one player needing to own the multiplayer game. The game is available here.
