Xbox Game Pass is Losing One of Its Best Games on January 31

Summary

  • On January 31, Xbox Game Pass will remove Death’s Door and five other titles.
  • Death’s Door, a highly-rated indie game, combines Soulslike elements with Zelda-style gameplay.
  • Darkest Dungeon is another well-reviewed game leaving Game Pass in January 2025.

Xbox Game Pass will be losing the highly-rated Death’s Door alongside five other titles when the next batch of games leave the service on Friday, January 31. Anyone that has been signed up for Xbox Game Pass for any significant amount of time will be familiar with the service’s patterns. New games are added throughout each month, but titles are consistently removed on two specific days: the 15th of the month, and the last day of the month.

This pattern is holding true when it comes to the Xbox Game Pass January 2025 updates. Xbox Game Pass lost six games on January 15, including the well-reviewed co-op game Escape Academy and the shooter game Insurgency: Sandstorm. Another batch of games is scheduled to leave Xbox Game Pass on January 31, and while the official announcement has yet to come from Microsoft, the service’s Leaving Soon section has spilled the beans ahead of time.

Major Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Feature Could Be Getting More Upgrades

Microsoft is reportedly working on delivering some notable upgrades for one of the major features of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Friday, January 31 will be the last day that Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play Anuchard, Broforce, Darkest Dungeon, Death’s Door, Maquette, and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem. The games will be available at a 20% discount for those that want to retain access to them after they’re removed from Game Pass. Out of these, I recommend subscribers prioritize Death’s Door, as not only is there plenty of time to complete it before it’s removed from Game Pass, but it’s one of the service’s highest-rated games.

List of Xbox Game Pass Games Leaving Soon

  • Anuchard – January 31
  • Broforce – January 31
  • Darkest Dungeon – January 31
  • Death’s Door – January 31
  • Maquette – January 31
  • Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem – January 31

Death’s Door is a unique indie that was first released in 2021 as a timed Xbox console exclusive. Death’s Door blends Soulslike elements with The Legend of Zelda to great effect, offering an exhilarating world to explore full of puzzles, challenging combat, and memorable boss fights. Death’s Door has an impressive 88 overall rating on OpenCritic, making it one of the highest-rated Game Pass games, and so it’s especially sad to see it go.

Of course, Xbox Game Pass subscribers are encouraged to at least try all the other games leaving the service while they still can. Darkest Dungeon is another highly-rated game leaving Game Pass on January 31, with it holding an 84 overall rating on OpenCritic. Maquette reviews weren’t quite as positive, but the unique puzzle game certainly has its charm.

It’s always sad to see games leave Xbox Game Pass, but on the bright side, there are some new games coming to the service at the end of January as well, including some heavy hitters. Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is coming to Game Pass on January 21, while Eternal Strands is joining the service on January 28. Sniper Elite: Resistance will be available to subscribers on January 30, and finally, Citizen Sleeper 2 is joining Game Pass on January 31. It’s possible even more games are on deck for the Game Pass January 2025 lineup, but fans will have to wait for the official announcement from Microsoft to be sure.
