More New Astro Bot Content Could Be on the Way

Summary

  • Astro Bot could be receiving new post-launch content, possibly involving a Tekken crossover.
  • This rumor has surfaced following the appearance of Heihachi in a leaked poster.
  • Team Asobi has released multiple DLCs for the game since its launch.

New rumors are circulating that Astro Bot could be getting even more post-launch content after a now-deleted social media post seemed to reveal some new characters in what appears to be a possible Tekken crossover. Should the rumors prove true, it would be the latest of multiple DLCs that Astro Bot developer Team Asobi has released for the game since its initial launch last year.

Taking home the prestigious Game of the Year at the Game Awards last year, Astro Bot was one of 2024’s biggest gaming launches, offering a wide array of platforming content full of references to outside franchises. The game served as something of a celebration of PlayStation’s longstanding history in the gaming industry, with many of its characters taking on the appearances of iconic gaming mascots from the brand’s past.

Team Asobi could be expanding the game even further after rumors circulated following a now-deleted Tweet from Arrowhead Studios boss Johan Pilestedt that revealed a new poster for the game featuring some new bots, as reported by MP1st. The main point of interest for fans is likely the appearance of a bot dressed as Tekken antagonist Heihachi, who did not appear in Astro Bot originally.

New Astro Bot DLC Rumored to Bring Tekken’s Heihachi into the Mix

Of course, there is no official confirmation about potential new content for Astro Bot from Team Asobi as of yet, nor is there any sort of timeline as to when fans might hear more about it, if it does exist. However, given that Astro Bot has received DLC with new bot characters like Spider-Man and Gex appearing, along with a whole new pack of levels focusing on speedrunning, the possibility seems likely.

Despite being one of many characters to appear in Astro’s Playroom, the game’s predecessor, Heihachi was absent from Astro Bot entirely, leaving Kazuya as its only Tekken representative. Seemingly, the poster reveals a new design for Heihachi that differs from his Astro’s Playroom appearance, which led to rumors that he might be making his way to the new game as a planned DLC in the near future.

The Tekken franchise has been a staple of the PlayStation brand since it made its way from the arcades to home consoles and solidified itself as one of the PS1’s seminal fighting game titles. Last year marked the series’ 30th anniversary and the release of Tekken 8, which has seen several post-launch DLCs and significant updates since launch and enjoyed massive success.
