Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is said to be facing a ban in Saudi Arabia over its inclusion of a same-sex romance scene. Due to this, some followers of the game have turned on its creators, accusing them of “lying”, with others going as far as cancelling their pre-orders.
This kicked off after Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s writer Daniel Vávra addressed reports of the ban in Saudi Arabia. He didn’t go into too much detail on what this scene would include, but did say that it is “purely up to the player what decisions they make”.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Under Attack Over Same-Sex Romance Scene
Despite the game not being out yet, many already take issue with the fact such a scene could exist
“The game is exactly what I wanted it to be,” says Vávra. “No one has tried to influence me as an artist in any way, and anyone who knows me knows I wouldn’t let them anyway.”
He continues, explaining why he feels that naysayers will come around. “It is a ROLE PLAYING GAME, so it is purely up to the player what decisions they make and for all the decisions they make, they are responsible for the consequences that correspond to the morals and social norms of the time.”
However, this hasn’t been enough for some. In the replies, we can see that many are still attacking the writer, accusing him of going “woke” or “selling out”. Some of the replies also appear to be trying to make Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 the next target in the online outrage cycle, after Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Avowed, and The Witcher 4 devs had to put up with similar attacks.
As Vávra hints in his statement, he is often on the other side of this campaign. He has a history of being sympathetic to the GamerGamer crowd, going as far back as the mid-2010s. More recently, he was accused of making an “unprofessional” jab at Dragon Age: The Veilguard at a time when many were rooting for its downfall due to its inclusion of LGBT+ characters.
