In Solo Leveling, Jinwoo’s relentless determination drives his journey, marking every battle as a step toward greatness.
The Nightmare Of The Double Dungeon
A Raid Gone Wrong
At the beginning of Solo Leveling, Jinwoo is known as the world’s weakest and is an E-rank hunter barely scraping by in the dungeon-raiding profession. His dedication to supporting his sick mother and sister makes him continue to go on raids even though he is not strong enough. Hence, Jinwoo usually goes on low-risk dungeon raids, but fate has other plans for him and the other hunters. As the hunters advance, they find a double dungeon, and most of the hunters never live to tell the tale.
Instead of facing standard monsters, Jinwoo and the others find themselves inside a massive temple surrounded by lifelike stone statues. At first, the statues appear immobile, but an ancient set of commandments inscribed on the temple walls hints at some set of rules the hunters must follow:
- Bow before the god
- Sing praises unto the god
- Prove your faith through sacrifice
When the group fails to follow the rules, chaos erupts. The statues come alive, mercilessly slaughtering hunters who break the commandments. In a matter of minutes, what was once a confident raid party is reduced to the corpses of hunters. In this vein, Jinwoo quickly realizes that brute force is useless. He begins deciphering the commandments, guiding the survivors through the trials in the temple. His intelligence and survival instincts shine during this ordeal while others succumb to fear. However, the temple’s commandments demand a price.

With the premiere of the Solo Leveling anime adaptation just around the corner, here’s a look at each main character’s rank and skills.
The final trial requires a sacrifice, and Jinwoo, already battered and bleeding, makes a choice that defines his character when he offers himself as the sacrifice. Since he knows he is the weakest and least valuable in combat, he urges the others to escape while he stays behind. This moment marks Jinwoo’s lowest point, the first step toward greatness, and one of the most unforgettable scenes in the series. Afterward, the temple guardians descend upon Jinwoo and tear him apart. However, instead of dying, something extraordinary happens. A mysterious power intervenes during Jinwoo’s near-death experience and offers him a choice:
“Would you like to become a player?”
Jinwoo’s life changed forever when he got the message from an interface. He is given an impossible opportunity but doesn’t know what it means to be a player or whether the message is a test or a trap. However, instead of facing the alternative of permanent death, Jinwoo makes a choice; he accepts.
The Awakening
The Rebirth Of A Hunter
After the double dungeon ordeal, Jinwoo notices he feels stronger. The System that comes with his awakening gave him daily challenges and quests and even rewarded him. After the awakening, he no longer avoids dungeons out of fear; he seeks them out to get stronger. In these moments, Jinwoo fought some monsters that should have been impossible for him.
Jinwoo Vs The Subway Snake
The first real test Jinwoo faced with his new mysterious powers was the subway snake. After he fights against the underlings, he finally meets with the boss of the level. The snake is huge, and its scales are as thick as armor with fangs of venom. But unlike before, Jinwoo is not afraid. The System’s training has made him faster and stronger. Instead of charging recklessly, he analyzes the monster’s movements. The battle is iconic because it foreshadows everything that comes next for Jinwoo as a hunter. It is the first of many moments where Jinwoo steps up, takes control, and proves that he will always get stronger.

Jinwoo’s fight against Igris in Solo Leveling Episode 11 was his greatest challenge so far. Just who is this incredibly powerful opponent?
Jinwoo Vs Cerberus
On the journey to become stronger, Jinwoo’s voyage into the hellish dungeon is one of the most terrifying locations he has ever entered. The three-headed monster, Ceberus, whom he met in the hell dungeon, is stronger, faster, and deadlier than the beasts in standard dungeons. The monster’s three heads give it perfect vision over the battlefield, making it nearly impossible to sneak attack, and each head can attack independently. Despite Jinwoo’s increased stats and new abilities, Cerberus proved much stronger and was on the defensive almost throughout the fight. For Jinwoo, one wrong move, and it’s over. When Jinwoo realizes Ceberus is too powerful to be taken down by basic attacks, he uses the tools in the System to ensure a fatal blow to the monster. After so much back and forth and injuries to Jinwoo, he finally weakens Ceberus and goes in for the final blow that kills the beast. For Jinwoo, this moment is the first time he goes toe-to-toe with an overwhelmingly powerful enemy in a confined space, with no escape and only his own skill to rely on.
Jinwoo Vs Igris
So far in the series, Jinwoo’s most iconic moments come from his duel against Igris. Before facing Igris, he fought against knights and mages that would otherwise have crushed him. Another huge blow for Jinwoo during the battle was his inability to use certain stats to increase his survival level. However, he still faces the challenge head-on and faces Igris, who is intelligent and skilled. The moment the fight starts, Jinwoo realizes he’s up against something entirely different. Igris’s speed is almost unnatural, and Jinwoo finds it hard to fight against him. In this vein, Jin-woo knows if he wants to win, he needs to fight smarter, as there is no energy boost or power-up to rely on. After so many attempts, Jinwoo finds an opening and puts Igris down. With Igris’s defeat, Jinwoo resurrected him and his underlings, making them shadow soldiers and part of the System.
Jinwoo’s Bloodthirsty Rage
A Monster In The Making
During dungeon raids, monsters are not the only thing hunters should be afraid of because evil hunters also turn on their colleagues for selfish gains. Jinwoo faced this instance on two occasions during a raid. On a raid, Jinwoo went on a raid with a group of tight-knit hunters who usually kill people out of their groups, so they hurl the precious dungeon stones out of the cave for themselves. After Jinwoo fights alone against the boss in the level while also protecting a low-rank hunter, Jinho, the greedy hunters attempt to finish them off. The System upgrades Jinwoo into a bloodthirsty maniac who must kill these evil hunters. Jinwoo’s stance changed, and he killed all these hunters without much stress.
