As you explore in Aloft, you’ll have experiences where an extra set of hands could help you repair your island or heal the environment. Thankfully, you can use the multiplayer mode to help others or recruit your friends to sail through the skies. But how does it work?
We’ve tested it out for you so you can skip the trouble and go straight to navigating through the clouds on your islands. Whether you join an existing world or host a new one, here’s everything you need to know about Aloft’s multiplayer function! Don’t wait to start building with your friends and pursue the Leviathan.

How Does Multiplayer Work In Aloft?
From the start you can hop into an existing world or start your own and invite your friends to join. There’s a small process to getting multiplayer up and running, and we’ll walk you through it.
The process is simple if you want to join another player’s world, though hosting your own gives you a bit more control over what goes on. The details about each option is below:
How To Host Multiplayer
From the start menu, select the multiplayer option. Then, opt to host a world. From here, you can choose a name for the server and generate a room code. The code is hidden by default, but you can view it by selecting the eye icon.
If you’re on PC, you can click the code to copy and paste it to invite your friends!
Select confirm, then choose which of your world saves to use as a host. This will set the stage for you and your friends to sail the skies, and determine which of your home islands you start off with, if any.
How To Join Multiplayer
If you’d rather join, then select the multiplayer option from the main menu, then opt to join a world. A list of available servers will appear, and you can sort through them by server region, survival mode, creative mode, and more.
If you have a friend code, enter it in the top right corner and press join!
Once you join a world, you’ll appear on the spawn island with your current character’s gear. Anything you had in your inventory will travel along with you across worlds, so make sure to leave whatever you don’t want to bring at home.
What Can You Do In Multiplayer Mode?
When you’re in multiplayer mode, there’s a lot you can do with friends. For starters, you can spawn your personal home island in the world to use as a vessel, and you can travel on a friend’s home island together.
You can also build together, though the host will need to give you permission from the options menu before you can alter their home.
When building together, you won’t be able to see where your friends are placing objects, so be sure to communicate with them! Luckily, you can build objects your friends haven’t discovered yet so they can use their sketchbooks to unlock new designs.
Working together also makes it easier to fight against the corruption on floating islands, and you can divide and conquer to collect valuable resources.
