Hollow Knight fans have been going through a rollercoaster of emotions recently, thanks to what many perceived to be a tease for a potential Silksong reveal during Nintendo’s dedicated Switch 2 Direct on April 2 later this year. It all began when one of the game’s co-creators, William Pellen, changed the usernames and profile picture of his throwaway Twitter account to tease the date April 2.
There were some other details too, such as the name of the account being connected to a brand of wine from Adelaide – the place in which Team Cherry is based – but it really felt like we were finally getting some news after years of silence. Unfortunately, it now appears as though this ARG was nothing to get excited about after all.
Earlier today, well-known Hollow Knight speedrunner Fireb0rn – who has also been keeping tabs on the entire situation – claimed via their Twitter account that Leth (the nickname of Matthew Griffin, who is essentially in charge of Team Cherry’s PR) reached out to them to confirm that there is no Silksong ARG. He also apparently explained that the changes made to William’s account are “a nothingburger”.
Hollow Knight Fans Want Team Cherry Statement After Silksong ARG Gets Debunked
Now having to deal with the likelihood that the first piece of promising news about Silksong in yearswas nothing but nonsense, Hollow Knight fans have taken to Reddit to vent their frustrations. Shortly after Fireb0rn posted their tweet, a Reddit user called Nickritikos took to the Silksong subreddit to “demand a statement from Team Cherry”.
Most of the anger seems to come from the fact that this tweet seemingly confirms that the Twitter account that started it all actually does belong to Pellen. If what Leth says is true, and it was for nothing, it means that a Silksong dev riled up their own fanbase, and many are now calling the whole fiasco “lowkey cruel” and “a gut punch”.

It’s time for me to dive into a classic that I keep hearing about, but never played myself.
Others are claiming that it was “completely unprofessional and immature behavior”, while a lot of anger also seems to be aimed at the fact that Team Cherry has seemingly spoken through a high-profile content creator, rather than communicated with fans directly, which is something that has been a constant point of criticism aimed at the devs for a while.
It’s worth pointing out that there’s a very slim chance that Leth is just attempting to quell some of the excitement that’s built up over the past 24 hours, and Team Cherry actually does have something planned for April 2, but it seems fairly unlikely. Fireb0rn could also be lying, but it would be a bizarre one, and would almost definitely tank his credibility with Hollow Knight fans. Best to just chalk this one up as yet another disappointment. Anyone got any clown makeup?
