GameStop is limiting sales of the Pokemon Trading Card Game‘s newest expansion set, “Prismatic Evolutions,” ahead of the fan frenzy over the set. The massively popular trading card game based on the beloved monster-catching franchise has seen plenty of exciting sets with highly sought-after “chase cards.” Popular Pokemon like Charizard and Pikachu often serve as some of the game’s most prized releases, with the Evolving Skies alternate art version of Umbreon even fetching thousands of dollars. Now, Pokemon‘s newest set has kicked up fans into a frenzy over its new cards.

Officially released on Friday, the Pokemon Trading Card Game‘s Prismatic Evolutions set has already gained plenty of notoriety ahead of its launch. The set has seen fansfrantically trying to buy out the expansion across several different retailers, with many of its “Eevee-lution” cards selling for hundreds of dollars. The set has even led some stores to place heavy restrictions on fans looking to purchase the set, attempting to curb the surge in re-sellers for the popular set. GameStop has now followed suit by placing its own limitations on Prismatic Evolutions.

A massive crowd of Pokemon TCG fans leave empty-handed after a store decides not to sell a newly-released set due to safety concerns.

GameStop officially announced its stance on the Prismatic Evolutions set earlier this week, laying out the guidelines for the new expansion. Ahead of the release of Prismatic Evolutions, GameStop confirmed that individual customers will only be able to purchase two units each, aside from pre-existing pre-orders for the set. The company stressed the importance of “ensuring more fans can access the latest expansion” with regards to its decision. GameStop also confirmed it will be offering free card savers and sleeves for PSA submissions during the weekend of January 17-19.

Pokemon‘s newest TCG controversy would not be the first time fans and re-sellers have flown into a frenzy over new products. The fan-favorite “Scarlet & Violet: 151” set has been a frequent victim of re-sellers, with the recent “Blooming Waters” collection seeing similar chaos with its release. The Pokemon TCG has also seen several distribution issues with the card game throughout recent months, causing a marked increase in the price of sealed products on the secondary market.

While fans will likely see significant difficulties picking up Pokemon‘s new Prismatic Evolutions set, The Pokemon Company has confirmed that relief is on the way. The Pokemon Company will be ramping up printing for the affected products, with both Prismatic Evolutions and the previous “Surging Sparks” set seeing significant shortages. The developer also revealed it has several more products on the way for Prismatic Evolutions following the set’s initial release. Pokemon fans can only hope that increased efforts to print more of Prismatic Evolutions will help to alleviate the chaos surrounding its release.
