G2 SkewMond: “I will have to do even better by winning an international title”

The most sought-after rookie this LEC off season, jungler SkewMond has gone straight to the top joining EU heavyweights G2. The pressure will be on immediately given the side’s usual domestic dominance, however the Frenchman was able to make a less-pressured debut than most at the Red Bull League of Its Own. Esports.net spoke to SkewMond after the event.

Editor’s Note: This is one of the “lost interviews” we get live right before the LEC 2025 Winter Split kicks off.

Lee Jones: You played against T1 as a top laner in a roleswap match.

How would you rate your Yasuo?

SkewMond: I’ve played really poorly. I think my laning phase was pretty decent, I think I was up like 15 CS at least at like minute 10. But coming into team fights and mid game it was pretty odd for me. I’m pretty disappointed, I could have done way better.

Was it nice to be able to make your debut in a ‘for fun’ event like Red Bull League of Its Own where there’s perhaps less pressure than an official LEC match?

SkewMond: It was definitely pretty fun. I mean, kind of sad that we didn’t win a single game, hopefully I will win some in LEC. But yeah, for sure, it was definitely very interesting and it was such an amazing experience to play for the 15,000 people. So yeah, it was pretty fun.

Lee Jones: Since 2016, G2 have only had three junglers: Trick, Jankos, and Yike.

Tell me what it’s like joining that sort of legacy?

SkewMond: It’s definitely a lot of pressure. As you said, it’s actually amazing that only three junglers played for G2 during that time. I’m really grateful for that opportunity and I really want to show some great things because obviously both Jankos and Yike showed really amazing stuff and they won a lot of trophies during their G2 time.

I’m really looking forward to my debut and I really hope that I can bring some trophies to G2 and maybe some international ones as well.

Lee Jones: Talking of international trophies, that’s been the only thing that’s evaded G2 in recent years and the lack of international success appears to be the reason behind the 2025 changes.

Does that pressure on you coming in?

SkewMond: Yeah, absolutely. The G2 staff and players are not actually trying to put some pressure on my shoulders, but obviously when I decided to accept the deal and join G2, I knew that I’m joining the team that basically won everything last year. Like actually every split in the LEC. So it’s a lot of pressure.

You cannot do better than them in Europe. So yeah, obviously I know that I will have to do even better by winning some international title hopefully.

So yeah, it’s it’s definitely some pressure, but I don’t really feel it for now. Maybe when I will play in the LEC it will be different. But so far it’s it’s pretty decent.

How have you been settling in so far?

SkewMond: We did a lot of team activities, team bonding. It was pretty nice to introduce myself to such amazing players like Caps, BrokenBlade, and even the staff. It’s a bit intimidating at first, but really helped me to find my place in the team and they did a really good job at doing it.

What’s something that surprised you during this jump to the LEC?

SkewMond: Probably the preparation on scrim days, I’ve been introduced to how G2 play on a daily basis. We have a pretty set routine by doing some workouts in the morning, we have some routine before scrims as well and between scrims and it’s very different than on the ERL level.

So yeah, it was actually a big difference and I can’t wait to see how it will look on the match day as well.
