Why Could Venom Appear In The MCU?
Venom might be a character in Sony’s failed Spiderverse, but they have collaborated with Marvel in recent years, which has seen various former Sony Spider-Ma characters appear. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were part of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which gave people hope that Venom could be the next to appear. He’s a character that Marvel’s creatives will no doubt want at their disposal, given the audience’s familiarity, his powers, and the storyline potential.
There have been teases in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home about a possible crossover, and audiences have clung to them ever since. Eddie Brock was sent back home at the end of the last Spider-Man movie after he’d been transported into the MCU. However, that showcased the potential for the character to jump into that world. Now that the multiverse is open and characters regularly jump between timelines, there’s no reason why it couldn’t be revisited.
Venom Wouldn’t Get The Right Level Of Focus In Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to feature a wide range of characters, which has been the case for every Avengers movie to date. Marvel has already confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU for this film to portray Doctor Doom, who is expected to be the villain. The Fantastic Four will be involved, while the likes of Wolverine, Deadpool, and Daredevil have all been rumored to appear alongside all the expected Marvel heroes that people know and love.
Given the fact that the multiverse is expected to be in full effect throughout this movie, there’s a high chance that there will be plenty of cameo appearances that audiences won’t expect. There has been speculation that Venom could be one of those characters who help out the villains against the Avengers. It could create some very special scenes and an appearance that would have everyone talking, but it’s hard to imagine Venom being the movie’s focal point. That’s where the problem lies and is why Avengers: Doomsday is the wrong movie to debut the character. People wouldn’t focus solely on Venom, and for a character as big as him, that really should be the case. Audiences want to be able to concentrate on Venom, especially as he has a complex personality, and losing him in the shuffle of other characters would be an error.
Venom’s MCU Debut Should Be Saved For Another Movie
Even though Avengers: Doomsday is going to be a movie that many people watch, meaning there’s guaranteed to be plenty of focus, Marvel Studios could make an even bigger splash with Venom later. It can be tempting to bring the character out in a blockbuster Avengers movie to get people talking, but it is something Marvel could save for Spider-Man 4. Ultimately, people want to see Venom and Spider-Man together, as that’s where the story is. Therefore, Marvel should focus on and lean toward that.
The Spider-Man movies are enormous events for Marvel and are amongst some of the most popular in the MCU, so they would still gain just as much attention. Even if Venom only turned up at the movie’s end to tease a future showdown in a potential Spider-Man 5, this is what people want to see. From the moment Tom Holland and Hardy started playing these characters, audiences have wanted a crossover, whether it be for Sony or Marvel. This is the movie that makes the most sense
Adding Venom to Spider-Man 4 would get the character into the MCU, and from there, Marvel could keep using the character. It doesn’t have to just be a one-and-done situation, as the character is interesting enough to continue using. He can become a serious villain who could cause threats to others in the MCU, or he can end up being an anti-hero who would be able to team up with Spider-Man and the other heroes moving forward. That might lead Venom to be involved in future Avengers projects, but Marvel would be smarter developing the character first rather than just thrusting Venom into Avengers: Doomsday, where the impact might not be as good.
